At $42,500 (1SS) & $46,000 (2SS) could this be an alternative for those not able to afford or get a hold of Z/28.

I think the idea of being able to start with a base car and option your way up to increasing levels of track capability.

I think there is only one way that I would be in.... If I were to purchase with the intention of moth balling the car for 30 years, which I personally would never do.
That said, I think this will be a limited run "special" automobile. I am sure it will live up to its billing. The price is in the range that I thought it would be. I'd love to own one, but it's about 20k extra dollars that I just wouldn't spend. I applaud GM for making this car and sending this 5th gen platform out with a bang. |

I think this is one where part of, and maybe a big part, of the value is simply exclusivity. Why buy one when you can buy a Corvette that is probably faster around the track for even 10 or 20K less? Cuz you won't see a Z/28 on the road every day or week or even month. You will see Corvettes all day and everyday.
Secondly, even though many on the more public forums are saying, "wow, $75,000 for just a Camaro", when many of us are saying, "wow, $75,000 for the most bad ass Camaro ever made". Me, I'm out. You all know I love the LS7 and I'd want one probably just for that. One of my greatest regrets was at C5Fest 1 in Georgia, I had the opportunity to run back and grab a set of keys to one of the Chevy cars on display. I grabbed the keys to the Dale Earnhardt Special Edition. One of the other cars there was the SEMA special. What engine did it have? The LS7. Wish I had grabbed those keys. I've read on the other auto forums, "I'd rather of had a 1LE with a couple thousand extra fro the LS7. Well as I've tried to point out, the LS7 automatically makes the 1LE a $60,000 car. More money than a ZL1 with less performance and slower around the track. That was never the point of this car when they decided to make the ZL1 the ZL1 and not the Z/28. It had to be more, better, faster. Don't get me wrong, a lotto jackpot would change my position like I'm sure it would for most everyone on this site, but for now, $75,000 is a bunch for a car that even the Camaro team tells is not an DD. So now we know it all. The curtain has been pulled aside and we know everything we've been wanting to know. There now is nothing left to know but EPA rating and the onslaught of comparison tests between the beast and the Mustang and Challenger. Assuming the SC Challenger is not just a ZL1 competitor and has some dance shoes to boot. This thread was started on October 21, 2009 in honor of one our own here in The House. Here we are 4 year and change later and we finally know what it will be and how much it will cost. What will we talk about now?

That is the $75,000 question.

Well said, Number 3. This car is a beast for sure and in my opinion, worth every penny. I am not a race car driver and have never taken a car around a race track but as a car enthusiast who happens to love naturally aspirated, high performance V8s, the Z/28 is one of the holy grails for me. It may "only" be a Camaro, as some people are saying, but team Camaro put their hearts and souls in these machines and made it much more than "just" a Camaro. It is a legitimate, high performance vehicle that just happens to be affordable for the average person. Add the 1LE and ZL1 to what they started with and you have an amazing set of vehicles. Cap off the 5th gen with the Z/28 and I don't think you can find another car that offers as broad a range of performance. What can we talk about now? How about the 6th gen Z/28. |

Not disagreeing, but I don't think they are making much profit on this one either. I think this is partly an exercise in demonstrating engineering prowess.

Do you really think so... even considering all the engineering? Let me phrase it this way.... how much has GM spent on the Z/28 to date? They haven't sold a single one yet.
Now divide that number by the proposed units being built and subtract individual built cost. Just as with the 1LE and ZL1 leaves me wondering how in then hell Chevy makes any money on these cars. I've given up owning a Z/28 but maybe one day I can at least drive one. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk |

The more and more we heard about the Z it gave me a funny feeling it was going to be 70-80k...... It helped that Pete guessed that price range as well. |
