No, it was applied right on the car and cut along the edges (blade into the grooves) with an exacto knife. My brother-in-law has a vinyl printing business. I suggested he try to make vinyl bowties for him to sell and he said it wouldn't really make sense because the vinyl needs to be stretched to maintain a good bond, so even if he did make the bowties, they would be all distorted and tougher to put on than just a square piece of stock vinyl.

After watching him apply it what he said made sense, but no, the bowties stayed on the car.

Exactly what happens to me. I got two sets of bowties from ridergraphix and both came out like crap because they just can't be cut to fit right. when the weather warms up I will try with a full sheet.

I've been really wanting to blackout my bowtie, but am afraid of all the difficulty of Doin it yourself. I don't want those rpidesigns ones where you have to fully take off your bowtie and put on theirs, I still want the chrome finish on the outside of the bowtie, like the stock one, I just instead want the gold part to be blacked out.

any other methods or things I can buy?

edit: just found this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CHEVY...ht_5180wt_1102

seems good?

I'm thinking of having my bowties painted when I have my hood spears painted on. I wonder if the body shop will get a lot to do them?
