Door Projector Lights...Help!!
I just received my lights that I ordered. They are installed..now having trouble finding the constant 12v power source. Can anyone help who's done this before? I have a 2011 1LT.

You should be splicing into the ambient light source or the dome light circuit.... not a constant 12v. If you do that the lights will be on all the time.
Do a search for ABL lighting to get info on where to connect. |

Here is the wiring info for the lights.
Driver Side- Red wire from Projector connects to the Red wire w/ White stripe. Black wire from Projector connects to the Grey wire w/ Black stripe. Passenger Side- Red wire from Projector connects to the Red wire w/ White stripe. Black wire from Projector connects to the Tan wire w/ White stripe. "

MGD- Ok...and where are these wires located? Are they behind the door panel, or elsewhere?
JHiiiDoc - yes, worded it wrong. What I meant was a 12v source in the door. Sorry about that. |

Ok....all done. Thanks so much to everyone who responded with such detailed descriptions on how to get to these wires. It made it sooooo much easier. Here are some pics from the install.
Here s the drivers door after removing the speaker and opening up the wrap. The red/white wire almost bit me in the face when I unwrapped it. It was literally like right there...waiting to be used. The black/gray wire was also easy to find. This install couldn't have been easier. As you can see, I cut about 12" of red wire and black wire to actually tap into the power and ground. I attached quick-connects to the ends and they will connect to their mate on the other end of the light wires. That way If I need to remove the door panel, I can completely remove it by just disconnecting the wires. I routed the wires from behind the speaker out through the hold that is just left of the speaker. Same thing for the passenger side...very easy to find the wires. Again, tapped into the wires, quick-connects on the ends and routed through the hole to the right of the speaker. As soon as it gets dark over here, I will take some pics of the finished product. Stay Tuned!!! |

Thanks for a great write up and photos! They really helped in finding the correct wires to tap. I had difficulties similar to SSFury, that The Stig quoted. You avoided . by using larger wires to tap with an bring out of the inner door cavity. That hole you used is not "extra", however. One of the door panel posts goes there. I made a small slit in the plastic liner.

I had that issue on the drivers side...you may want to put some loc-tite on the threads...that will keep the nut from turning.

Mine are good, just made sure to tighten the nuts really well. There should be a screw threaded into the side of the nut as well that you tighten to make sure it doesn't spin.

Don't tighten the nut too much, and be sure to use that set screw. This is so you can leave the nut just loose enough that you can adjust the image, and the setscrew keeps the nut from getting too tight or loose after the door is all put together.

I wired mine this way and it turned out perfect. Only comes on when the door's open.
That said prepare for a several hour project.. It was more work then I expected. Especially with them tiny wires you need to tap in to. Quote:
