Now if we could find a 2011 HUD dash pad, that isn't installed, and make a template that would fit down into the HUD pocket on the underside of the dash. (get the cut for the opening really, really close this way) that would be perfect. Wonder if any dealers have a 2011 dash pad in stock, or any totaled 2011's with the HUD option. (On the second option, I hope not.)

would'nt it have been great if g.m. would have sent all us "r6p" early orders a complete kit and install voucher,i meen we did order our car's sight unseen and in complete faith that it would be just what we wanted, after all they could have had "hud" from the beginning from what i can tell from other post's here where there is already a place to mount the hud...just my thoughts and of course it wont happen, and also the amb.lighting across dash,i really believe g.m. saved some of the options for later models but could have been included in the 2010's

I wish that was the way GM did that, and the ABL.

Not trying to insult anyone as I have said all along Very nice Job and thanks for all the info.. Fact is to really make it a finished install I would replace the windshield to get rid of the double imagining.. If you spend that kind of time taking the dash out and then spend all the money for the HUD unit why stop short of a really nice install?
Memphis ss, I have read this DIY from the beginning. At know time was I miss led or uninformed that the clarity was not going to be as good as a 2011 factory installed hud. I Knew without the windshield it was not going to be perfect. I suggest you read the whole post it was stated several times. Your kinda beating on a dead horse here.

Whatever reason GM decided not to install the hud. I'm just glad they had a mounting surface and communication side ready for it to be installed in the 2010. Otherwise we would be probably buying a dash pad to do this. I drove both with a hud and with out, and just loved the hud. But the extra 10,000 I would of spent on a new car versus a used 2010 was big price to pay. Now I will have best of both good price and a hud.

i would almost be willing to place bets that in the 2012 version's,g.m. will have the abl across dash, they already have it in cadillac's,just wish they would have went ahead and did the hud and abl. in our's...great job on your hud by the way,i just have'nt 100% commited to have mine done yet,i do know that is not a job that i would tackle by myself,i do have a g.m.certified tech that is willing to do it for me but he would probably charge me a few benjimins, and i would have to let him take my car to his shop for the weekend, sounds like it is a 2 full day job,

I agree... I would be nice to get a car without the stuff I will never use.

I was told by a member of GM, that there is no way to keep the cost down if they did it this way, Something about testing and all the the harness and programs that was needed to do this, And then there was a bankruptcy in there too.

I was told this at the O.C auto show, By a man named S.S.

looks like they would run about 400 give or take a few dollars depending on if you have remote start or not. They do not show available stock yet on either one

I have read from the beginning and my post were directed a few comments made that it wasn't needed and made it out like it wasn't required to achieve a clear display so I responded..
