GM MTX Factory Accessory Install/Review and Questions.

I purchased a 1LS '12 Camaro and ordered this kit with it: http://www.gmaccessorieszone.com/Che...Subwoofer/2012

I just got it back from being installed. I also had a "Personal Device Interface Module" added so I could USB my iPod in and control it from the radio. http://www.gmaccessorieszone.com/Che...PDIM%2529/2012

Initially I was not 'wowed' by the 1k dollar sub kit. The case is nice, it bolts into the trunk (the way I drive it needs to) which is nice. It has an output selection knob on the back of it (have to fold the rear seat down to gain access).

It does not take up much trunk space at all. The speaker screens are very strong feeling. All in all the hardware itself seems great.

The sound... not so much. They are rear firing subs and there is very little punch. I have to have the knob on the case turned up all the way, then the bass turned up to 12 and mid and treble at 0 to really notice the bass at all at low volume. Turn everything up in the 20's and it sounds great.

All in all the PDIM is awesome. The hardware and what not is awesome... the resulted sound isn't great though.

I figure I might have to upgrade the amp which I'm guessing is inside the case. Anyone else play with this kit at all?

I'm not having a problem with mine. Just not 100% satisfied with the sound.

Seems that way. I'm not a sound guru but have had nice systems installed in other vehicles... but it was pretty easy in those.

I figured the factory system would be enough because my wifes '11 2LT convertible has a ton of bass with just one speaker. This just doesn't have enough. Hopefully I can find the amp and upgrade it and all will be good. Fingers crossed, hoping someone chimes in with an idea.

Didn't even pay anything close to what dealers want for it. About 500 less and that was installed by authorized GM installers. And thats with state sales tax as well.

I got the phoenix gold amp/10 inch combo that was specially made for the camaro. $1000 included tax and installation and it is way better than stock. A lot of base, especially considering it is only a 10 inch woofer. It is awesome. Check it out

Reviews of the GM MTX and price is exactly why I chose to piece together a sub upgrade. I purchased a Subthump dual 12" rear firing box, subthump harnesses, polk subs and crunch 1100.2 amp...all for about $500. Got more than I bargained for.

your getting 2 low quality 10's and a 200 watt amp for 1k...

those subs cant be worth more than 100$ each

and dont even get started on 200 watt amps

i wouldn't pay more than 500$ for that setup

i have 2 12'in RFF subs P3's 250$each and a 200$ 1700watt hifonics brutus... with sub thump box 200$ and 50$ wiring 50$ installation u do the math

i did it myself, idk what shop u went to.

those MTX subs arent worth anywhere close to being 700$ in a box

^^ Agreed, the factory subwoofer kit is overpriced. Kind of like Boston Acoustics, MTX makes great subs but they put some cheap ones in our cars.

Anyone that is thinking of getting the factory subs, dont - unless you don't care about the $$$ - for that $1k a car audio shop can hook you up great, or if you install yourself even better, but if you can do installs then you already know this.

You can get a good sub for a bit over $100, sub box for around $140 give or take, and $500 will get you a true 1000w rms amp. This would sound ten times better for a lot less $$.

I did the math. Your setup=$1250. Mine was 700 and change. But what you didn't figure is I have a 3yr warranty. Blow it,replace it. Sounds great in my opinion. But most who say otherwise haven't had one. Not trying to win any bass competitions or have anyone hear me coming from a block away. You do what you did,I did what I did. I'm happy with my setup.

Well. I'm not happy with the set-up. It's OK. I love the box, I'm sure the subs are fine for what I'm looking for just need more power. I gotta take apart the box to figure out what's inside and go from there.
