$121 - At the dealership, right?
I switched my v6 over to Mobil 1 at 1500 miles and it was $89 at the dealership. The bill broke down the costs for labor and oil ($9.85/qt of Mobil 1). 6 quarts of oil ($60) + labor (.2h @$97/hr) + misc fees/taxes. I just looked at it when I paid and was glad I owned a V6. If I had bought an SS, it would have been another $20 for the 2 more quarts of oil.

You should all think about seriously doing it yourself..
I think I spent $50-$55 on 8 quarts of Mobil 1 plus a filter and did it myself.

Agree 100%. Autozone runs specials on the 5+Qt Mobil 1 combo with Mobil 1 filter, add in the 3 single qts and you're $50-$55. And time? By the time I drive to the stealership and wait for those knuckleheads to get to it, I could be finished! Plus it gives you some alone time under the ole girl

Autozone has/had 5 quarts Mobil1 synthetic and a Mobil1 filter for $29.95. Buy 2 and your oil change costs $45. You will be 1.5 quarts and a filter ahead of the game.
I bought 8 cases Pennziol Platinum at $3.99 a quart and 6 Mobil1 filters when they were $9.95. I also bought 6 of those Mobil1 synthetic/filter specials at $30 a pop. I have enough oil and filters for 9 oil changes with 3 filters and some oil left over. Total cost $432. I change my friends 2SS oil, so I charge $60. Total cost per oil change? $44 Mobil1 oil and Mobil1 filter.

Yeah I did the rear diff fluid change at the same time as my first oil change at the dealership and it was $190 total. I thought, well so much for the first mod....

If you can, let the dealer do it because we get updates on vehicles all the time. I'm shocked to see many older vehicles come in recent for a recall when I can remember doing those recalls years before. Alot of recalls fix problems that could occur to your vehicle and people go to a aftermarket shop to spend money on fixing something a free recall could of fixed.
An oil change at a decent dealer will make sure your car is always up to date and find things wrong before it costs you money after warranty is up. No time to bitch about an LOF after you just spent the bank on your car. An LOF is the cheapest maintenace you can do on your car anyway? But if you are comfortable doing it yourself, thats cool too. Give it a rub for me while your down there. |

I know how to change my own oil, I just can't do it. I don't own my own residence. I live in an Apt complex.

When you change the oil yourself, what do you do with the old oil?
