Trouble from the beginning
Hello All!
As you can tell, this is my very first post on Camaro5. For the last 6 years I have been a Charger R/T guy and active on their forum. About two weeks ago, after a long love affair with the Charger, i made a switch to a 2012 Camaro SS. So far I have been quite disappointed. After 349 miles my brand new Camaro is sitting in the Service Department awaiting an operation. I noticed what sounded like lifters tapping and after researching the wealth of info on this forum I took it in for a diagnosis. The dealer knew I wasn't exactly clueless about engines and some of the recurring problems with 5th Gens. The same day i dropped it off the Service Dept called to say they were going to replace the oil pump. Well, that wasn't ok with me. If the oil pump is bad and not properly lubricating the top end there is too much of a chance of other damage, however minor, already being done. After discussion about replacing the car, we have settled on a comprimise to replace the entire engine. So, here I sit waiting for the Camaro to be repaired and returned. I will say the dealer has been quite responsive and understanding. They will certainly earn positive recognition once this situation is resolved. I sure hope I love the Camaro as much as everyone else here soon! |

350 miles, I would demand a replacement car.

Wow, that bites! Hope it all works out for you. Atleast the powers that be are working for you. I'm surprised they didn't let you switch to another Camaro.

IMO that is no longer a new car after a complete engine replacement. Tell them you want the car replaced with a factory fresh one.

I'm sorry to hear about this DNK. Like the others here, let us know how things go for you. Hopefully it's a quick job and you can enjoy your vehicle soon.

I appreciate those who say "make them give you a different one". However, I am not one of those people that see a G5 Camaro and starts to drool. In order for me to love it, it had to be very specific. The car I chose was the only one available with the options that I wanted. We checked. Some were close but none were exact. Therefore, I chose to let them fix it rather than replacing it (at this time).
The dealer ordered a new engine from GM which took a while to get built and shipped. It's been installed in the car. They kept it an extra day to do some more road testing, recheck fluids, give it a bath, etc... I'm going to pick it up today. It will be nice to be out of this rental car and back in the Camaro. |

Sounds like he found one just the way he wanted it and purchased it. That makes it special. Not easy to do if you are buying from dealer stock.

Paul is correct. It was the combination of 2SS white coupe with IOM rally stripes and no sunroof that made it "special".
Anyhow, picked it up this afternoon. So far all is well! Cant tell anything was ever touched. They are working an extended 36/36000 extended warranty (i didn't buy it with the car). I couldn't be happier with my dealer and how hard they have worked to make this right. |
