Well, made it to Brainerd Optimist dragway (1/8th mile) in nearby Ringgold Georgia. Test and Tune, getting ready for a Street Fight. Temps 70*.
First up: 24mpg on the way up (increasing elevation), 25mpg on the way back. The SLP Underdrive Pulley is immediately noticeable. About +2mpg. But at idle, it is charging less than 12v. So I bumped up the idle +250rpm, which I wanted to do anyway (550rpm OEM?). That did the trick. With lights and accessories running at stock idle, your battery will run low. I also have a 21lb Braille battery, so I'm pushing the limits of amperage draw. Second: oh my oh my, do I love the combination of 3200 Stall and 3.45 gears (and the UDP to an extent). Car is much crisper and faster without spinning up so high. Low end torque feels great. Third: track prep track prep track prep. The new gears spun the tires on all launches except one was a 1.75 sixty (still spinning). So, good night to hit the track, but not for Testing and Tuning, because not hooking up doesn't help me tune well (at all). The track isn't great, but it's local and I met a lot of local racers. Some nice cars, and they loved the Camaro. I was running 8.30's @ 85mph, so the track is slower than Steele. Funny thing is I met three other pastors. One doing the announcing, another driving the "Holy Ghost" funny car below. The black Mustang GT Vert was a very similar bolt-on with 4.10 gears, auto, and 3000 stall. We were both running 8.30's, so we lined up for a grudge match. Left lane timing wasn't working, but I took him with my 1.7 sixty (no ET, mine was probably an 8.20) to his 8.60 run.. The announcer was running a "Pass Time" with a couple of kids. More pics. All in all a fun place to go if you just need to get on the track, but I won't be going there just for T&T. I'll make sure I get back to Steele soon for some real times. Padre

Great build! Stumbled upon this when I was searching for info on shorty headers, good info. I'm also looking forward to the results about your plans to making a run with the stock cat-back.

I think lowering the car sets you back some on your 60 ft. You may pick up mph, but it may not even be a measurable amount. Lowering it decreases your frontal area and lets less air under the car. It's not my car, nor my choice, bur I would have like to see everything done except lowering it and make some runs. O well, you'll still get your 11 sec slip tho.

Well if the springs didn't hurt, that potentially good news for me when I lower mine!

Hey - It's good to see you out and running it. Keep working on those 60' times. Nice build. And yes a prepped track makes all the difference in the world. |

Padre was definitley blessed with driver mod "The Saint of Fast Travel" Glad to help ya out, let us know how Bristol goes. Hopefully the track is prepped |

Yeah baby.
DA was 2750+, on track temps were in the 90's. Track prep was good (not as great as it usually is). This is good news for me, because of the inability to hook up at Brainerd. First run when I got to Steele was a 1.685 sixty. Relieved, now I can get back to working on my times. Only change, as at Brainerd, is the 3.45 gears. Also added the BMR front and rear sways and the SLP Underdrive Pulley. I drove with the track tune in it (mostly WOT changes anyway), and was getting alost 25mpg with the A/C on. As I've said, the performance with the Gears + TC is a dream. Zipping around in highway traffic is a breeze - you're right in your power band and no high-stall TC lag. I was able to get to the track today because Steele moved it's T&T to 2:30pm to 7:30pm. I was done with my last service and left at 5:15pm ET, arrived at 6:00pm CT (131 miles), got in six runs. This is great because now I can make it out on any Sunday I choose, rather than having to rearrange my schedule once a month so. All in all, a good day. Hot, but I accomplished what I wanted: seeing how it hooks with the gears, and all is OK. Padre I pretty much had the track to myself:

It's all about the Density Altitude. That was to be expected. I wouldn't have raced when the DA was 3000+, except that I wanted to see if there was a problem hooking up with the new setup. There wasn't. That's good news.

3000 DA is rough, that's gonna add 2-3 tenths and shave off a few mph.
I'd say the lowering isn't a factor yet, TBD. It's not like you are trying to get a 1.50 short time and are running drag shocks up front etc.
