Need Applications for Old License Plates

Currently anyone in CA can apply for gold on blue, gold on black, or black on yellow classic license plates - there is no restriction on using any of these plates on any model year. They will look as close as possible to originals, but they will be reflective and use current numbering sequences. You can retain personal plates you already own. The catch is there must be 7,500 applicants of any one color before the state will start producing them. DMV updates the web page below once a month with the number of applicants accepted. If you want old school plates, PLEASE APPLY. Spread the word at car shows, the applicant count is almost half way there for yellow on black, we can make it well before Jan 2015 (deadline) .

Yup, illegal on a number of counts....wrong cop stops you and they impound your Camaro....

On a technicallity, yes it is illegal... but if you find a cop that knows these right off the bat... i haven't come across one yet...

I wouldn't get so worked up about it.. impounded is a bit 'much' considering the numebers all match and finding a cop that knows the plate isn't available today is hard to come by, let alone, they don't really care.

It's probably the equivalent as obstructing your license plate ticket (with like the plastics (which i also have over it)) or tinted windows...

On top of that, you can have the plates made for 'decoration' so who is to say i can't have the plate on the car for photo's only and not driving on public roads.

I did say if you got pulled over by the wrong cop, any older CHP officer will know that a black plate would never be allowed on a new car, and no personalized plates were around when black plates were issued, so those are two defects that are easily discernable.

I'm surprised the minimum hasn't been met on these yet.. that being said I have not pulled the trigger either.

Can't decide on Blue/Yellow or Black/Yellow. My first (72 Chevelle) was Blue/Yellow so that is my first choice

I run a black and yellow CA plate on the front of my Impala. Was on it when I bought it and it looks better than the MA plates. Totally illegal, even a clear plastic cover is illegal here.

So. If anybody get these vintage plates. How many will put them on the front right away?
