I wouldn't even consider an automatic. For me a stick is more fun to drive. When looking at used camaros in the past, the sticks always got my attention. That being said, I think I may be in the minority. If you look at the kelley bluebook site, used automatics are valued higher than sticks.

An automatic usually these days has a higher resale value since younger drivers in their 20's are buying more auto sports cars than ever before. In about 10 years when you are ready to sell the Camaro SS, the auto wil probably be just a little easier to sell.. As for resale value I think CamaroSSforme is correct that since the auto costs more, it translates to being a little more in the Blue Book value.

It depends on the car. Look at the market of prospective buyers... are they 30yr old women or 20yr old guys wanting to "race"? Sports cars probably are about equal or maybe the manual being better for resale. But family sedans, the auto will have much better resale value. I think Camaro SS models will probably see about the same or maybe higher value for the manual but v6 I wouldn't be surprised if the auto has a higher resale. Keep in mind that the auto costs more in the first place. I recently went through this debate and that's what I figured out. Look at the resale values for Mustang GTs if you'd like a decent comparison.

Simple answer, resale for 4th gens is way better with the six speed trust me, i tried to buy a stick and could only get a auto with my budget. In a performance car...after a few years the stick will be worth more.

Don't discount older guys (like me) who have the ready savings to buy these cars. I'm from the generation who remembers the first and second generation Camaros first-hand, and I'd bet we're a pretty sizeable part of the 2010 Camaro market.

You definately can't go by blue book on these cars. My 2000 SS with 19,000 babied miles has a blue book of $9,500! And that is private party, I'm sure my dealer would love me to trade this in on my 2010 SS, trade value is $7,300. I have it sold to a guy at work for $19,000 and it has a stick. That being said, i ordered the L99 A6 for my new one. I won't have to worry as much when my son wants it for the prom, he's only 7 though!!

To be honest, I think the manual Camaro will end up holding more value over the long haul. However if I trade it in within 7 years....it won't and that holds true for every car that costs more with an auto to start with. I supplied a link for you to see for yourself. What you are talking about isn't really resell value, but more collectability and I agree there. If you are planning to hold onto it for 10 plus years...manual all the way. |

Hey actually getting mine from the same store! I had called Apple Chevy first since they're closer. They wouldn't sell to me at GMS. So I called Phillips, they also said no go. I told them if they want an easy sale, they have my #, so call me back if they change their minds. Well they called back 5 minutes later and now I am scheduled to receive an Imperial Blue SS! Can't wait!

I think a factor to be considered in the decision would be "where you plan to resale it." If you live out in the country, then it's awesome for a stick. On the other hand, if you drive bumper to bumper each day to work, it really sucks. Location will have a factor in the decision-making process.

Stick vs automatic resale depends on how old the car is. newer cars are worth more with automatics. But as they get older stick shift is more desirable. Check the collector car market- 4 speed Gto's / Camaros are worth much more with a 4 speed trans. In my opinion what you order depends on what you will use your Camaro for. Daily driver- Get the auto. Weekend fun car- Nothings beats a stick.

Don't worry about it! If you have a spouse or kids that can't drive stick or do a lot of heavy trafficed city drivin' or you just gotta have the remote start get an automatic! If you race, do more highway than city, or just enjoy the control get stick! Resale? Worry about now!
Mayans say we won't be here after 12/2012 anyway. I got the auto (V8 of course) because of traffic and the wife. I wanted a stick but knew I'd be getting too many tickets or do something stupid and run up a telephone pole! But that M6 is sweeeeeet!
