GM-Hurst Shifter Release Date??
Hey guys,
I'm a new member on this forum, but have been following it and the new camaro since the very beginning. I'll start off by saying this is the best 5th gen forum, and that's why I'm here! I was wondering if anyone has an update on the gm factory installed hurst shifter release date? I have seen in some other threads that the speculation is that it would be available to order on the car around late October. I am currently in the process of ordering an IOM 2SS/RS from my dealer. Everything is ready to go except for this shifter. My dealer has been trying to get ahold of his product information rep at gm, but no news yet. I would go for hurst's aftermarket version, but would prefer to have gm/hurst's installed straight from the factory, even if it doesn't have as short of a throw. My dealer has an allocation for a SS ready to order on Tuesday, but if the shifter is available soon, I would be willing to push it back a couple of weeks. I know this is such an incredibly tough and stressful situation I'm in (Ha!), but if anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated for my buying decision. Thanks! |

I thought I read that the Hurst/GM shifter was discontinued. My dealer told me the delay with pushing it to the market was because the "Hurst" logo on the shaft was not visible. Then Hurst came out with their own, not associated with GM. It has a shorter throw and is available now. Just buy it on your own and have your dealer install it.

The Hurst Shifter coming out under the GMPerformance Parts Umbrella has been discontinued. Just order the Billet/Plus2 Hurst for the 2010 Camaro. It's even better than the one that was going to be offered through GM

Let me say this ONE time and ONE time only!.. The GM/ Hurst shifter is NOT discontinued . Yes, it is on hold and not currently avail for order due to a re-design order request from GM. They advised dealers and updated the ordering computer system to not allow orders to be taken for the unit until the redesign is completed and signed off by a ton of different people. So, it will make it to market at some point, although I am not sure when?. So, yes if you want a HURST unit now, get the aftermarket version everyone loves here

I talked to my dealer last night, and he pretty much said the same thing subzero05 said. His "rep from Detroit" said that the gm/hurst shifter was still being evaluated and was "scheduled" for production sometime during the 1st quarter of 2010, but who knows when that actual date will be. Trying to remember correctly, but I think he also mentioned something about a limited production or limited supplies or something of the sort, but not completely sure.
So at this point, it seems that this is not something that will be available for at least a little while. But it seems it is still in the making. |
