It's a muscle car and they typically don't hold their value. The only thing holding the resale value up is the scarcity factor which will dimish in the next 12-24 as production continues and people upgrade to the convertable and eventually the Z28. In about 2 years, the resale value will be shocking low. The good news is that because this car has a distinct following, when it bottoms out it won't be as low as more generic cars. I was always taught not to buy 4X4's or muscle cars used because you can assume it was used as intended; rode hard and put up wet.

Of course I'm speaker to the average car not the garage queen. Sure, grandma only drove it to church on Sunday's only she was the little old lady from Pasadena.

In short, if you wait long enough, you'll be surprised what you can get for it. I had a 92 RS with 160,000k + on it and I sold it in 01 for more than twice KBB.I got 5k when KBB said it was only worth 2k. And the people who were looking were die hard camaro fans who were willing to pay the premium.

Cars that go up in value generally have to be produced in low-ish volume, and then something has to happen that prevents a like vehicle from returning for many many yars.

For example: The 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T with the 426 Hemi. Less than a thousand of that trim and engine combo were made original in late 1969 and 1970 . That particular model's body style was not brought back in 1971 (the 71 had the grille inserts). Shortly after that was the oil/fuel embargo(crisis), fuel and enviornmental standards all combined to prevent the return of the big block, super powerful V8's.

They have never returned in full force (especially big blocks).

Thus, the proper return of the Pony/Muscle car has never been realised, and thus, an original (either unrestored or extremely well restored) '70 Hemi Challenger R/T is worth well in excess of 100,000 dollars, if not more than 200,000. The same with the Yenko Camaro's and rare Shelby Mustangs of that era.

Well over 60,000+ V8 SS's were made in the 2010 MY alone. Even more will likely be made in 2011. The new Challenger and Mustang, along with the Camaro, will never, ever retain the value (both emotional or cash) of the classics, as there is nothing particularly unique or special about them.

Perhaps the model year that sees the end of the V8 engine will command extremely high value in 40 years, but now? or by 2025/30? no.

I wouldnt expect to get more than $5K-$7K in 8 years time for a SS Camaro with less than 55,000 miles. Maybe, MAYBE a very low mile (>30,000) could command 10-14,000 in 8 years.

And lets not think what they will be worth if gas goes to $5-6.00 a gallon.
If gas gets there our Camaro's will be pretty sweet lawn ornaments

Here's been my experience; usually loose 40-50% after 4years/50,000 miles. This goes to 65-70% after 7 years/80,000 miles. That's the difference from sticker price new to trade-in value.

I've also verified these percentages using Mustang GTs as examples.

I've found the sweet spot to purchase cars for my teenager cars at 4 years and 50,000 miles; also SUVs. They got through (6 years - High School and College) with little driving expense from 50,000 miles to 150,000 miles.
