If you are cross shopping a new Z06, then you might as well buy the GTR and call it a day. I had a 14 Zl1, and was looking at the Z06 and GTR. I didn't hesitate, got the GTR. I'm waiting on the new Z model to come out tho thats for darn sure.

I like the Gtr, just not enough to get one. Looks don't do it for me. And It's the end of the generation. Performance is incredible, but still missing that V8 roar.

I'm with ya!! I'm gonna trade my GTR in on a new Z model. If they actually come out with a Z model.

I sort of went down this road late last year. It all started when I walked up to the rental car desk, and was offered a Camaro for very little extra. I said what the heck. I think driving that thing reignited my dormant car passion. Honestly, I loved and hated that Camaro. I loved Everything except visibility and interior design. Then I started researching models. I liked the ZL1 the best, but then started thinking about more power.
Hellcat power. Of course, I came to my senses and realized...Dodge man! Don't do it. Then I turned my sites on the Z06. Awesome car on paper. My dad bought a 2016. When i saw it the first time i was like wow. Really nice car. Lots of cool little details. Then he took me for a ride. WTF. That car is way too powerful, and on the street I would say it is totally impractical. Not my thing, but a lot of people love them. Ultimately that experience got me thinking a lot more about why I wanted a toy, and what I wanted to do with it. I started test driving other cars, and ended up one Saturday at a Porsche dealer. Test drove a 911 Turbo S. I always liked Porsche, but I never drove in the faster ones. All I can say is...wow. But not scary, out of control, you are going to die wow like the Z06. Those turbos are QUICK. But the Turbo S is basically a one trick pony. It is very civilized, and lightning quick. An average driver in a 911 Turbo would destroy a good driver in a Z06 9 out of 10 times from a standing start. Traction is just not a problem with those things. But I realized I really wanted a driving car, and not a muscle car or super quick 911 Turbo. So I spent a shitload over my budget and bought a 2015 911 GT3. Still quick as sin, but for the type of weekend driving I wanted to do, it just fit me better. The takeaway from this is that cars are a lot more than numbers. They have their own character, and you need to make sure you find the right car for what you want to do with them. On paper I thought the Z06 was perfect. But the reality is that it puts out WAY more power than i need, and I wasn't going to be happy with it. Test drive as many as possible, and know going in what you think will make you happy. |

ZL1. All the power of a Z06, trade a little handling for some seats.

I love the Vette also and was also cross shopping a Vette. I don't have kids yet, so a Vette may be more possible now, but I like having a back seat, just in case. When I have kids, I definitely need a back seat.

I'm considering both as well. A ZL1 or Z06 (non Z07). It'll be a toy, garage kept only seeing beautiful days in the mountains. It really boils down to justifying the spending of an extra $20,000 on a depreciating property owned just for fun.

Totally subjective....gt350 exterior is more pleasant than the 6th Gen. Totally objective....gt350 won't be able to hold a candle to Zwhatever, and until Ford dealers get rid of absurd markups, z will be more bang for your buck.
