6th gen vs 2013 ZL1

Hey guys, I'm new here. I just wanted some input from guys that have owned previous model camaro's. A little bit about my background. I have a 2.4L N/A cobalt ss. I supercharged it with the stock sc from the true ss cobalt. I had that for for 3 1/2 years till CA smog laws came up, and i reverted back to stock. I love the whine of the supercharger, and miss it tremendously. I'm in the market for a new car that would be see maybe 50 miles a week as just a play car. I've had my eye on used 2013 ZL1's. I just saw the release of the 2016 ss pricing and now have a bit of a predicament. A new ss is about the same price as a used zl1. What do I do? Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

For a 50 mile per week play car I'd get the ZL1. For a daily driver I'd get the 2SS.

The ZL1 is unique whereas the SS will become common. Add the supercharger, unbreakable drivetrain and performance upgrade potential the Z wins as a toy. The new cars interior looks to be far better for every day

WELCOME !!!!!! & I agree completely ^^^^^^^^ the new 2SS car will more than likely perform like the outgoing ZL1"according to GM" and the ZL1 in 20-30 years from now (if you still have it) will be a collection item. If you have the money and time, given an opportunity drive both. If you can leave either car without hesitation its not the 40 grand choice to make.. best of wishes man

Yeah absolutely! Honestly either way you will end up extremely happy iam sure. Dont need us to tell you that , but personally I cant wait to see just how good this SS-2SS camaro will be. I think GM may really dig into Corvette sales with this generation camaro making the vette more exclusive and less common. Time will tell

If the ATS-V with 462HP can do it, don't think it's as impossible as you would think. But I do think GM was saying the 6th gen SS will feel like the 5th gen ZL1.

I would get the new car every time, unless it was something very unique, like a 5th gen Z/28.

The ZL1 is a amazing car, not only is it fast but its great on the track as well. It sounds amazing to. I personally love the front end, and the hood insert.

However the new SS is going to be very cool as well, and possibly very close times to the ZL1.

Only downside of the ZL1 is it weights 4100 pounds. The New SS is going to weigh 3,600 pounds.

Yea but I'm sure that Cadillac is going to cost 80grand lol. I've watched many videos of the ats-v and most 0-60 times are 4.1-4.6.

But your right the 5th gen can feel like a ZL1 if you get the extra options like magnetic ride suspension, NPP exhaust, but then your looking at 50 grand for a SS. I just got my ZL1 for 51k, same price as a new SS.

Another option to look at might be a used cts-v coupe.

I think we should be hoping for something around 3,700...definitely not 3,600. 200+ pounds lost is around 3,700 give or take.

I'd go with the brand new car. Buying a car because it "might" be worth something bis wrong unless you have millions. Buy it and drive the piss out of it. A few bolt ons on new lt1 powered camaro will handle a stock zl1 with ease. Mark my word. Drivetrains wise the zl1 only has a stronger rear. The SS can get big brakes and mrc and should weigh hundreds less than a zl1.

Good point, 3,700 pounds and 455 hp will be amazing. I can't wait to see the stats I keep checking every day lol.

Ford did a great thing with the 2013 Mustang Gt "coyote". Literally in my 2012 SS I would always lose to my friends 13' mustang. Even with my 1LE gear ratio his stock mustang beat me 70% of the time.

The next-gen Camaro I can tell you after driving it extensively and then taking it onto the autobahn and Nurburgring in Germany a week before last -- that car out of the gate, the SS version, with a great powertrain -- which you can imagine what that might be -- off a very mature and exclusive architecture, is not going to be heavier. There is some physics here. Look at what some of the competition did on their next-gen -- it's heavier; it doesn't quite perform as well as the last one. I can tell you that. If you think about Z/28 and ZL1, SS -- think about the satisfaction that a ZL1 offers you today off of current Zeta. Think about that satisfaction moved down from an accessibility and model-range standpoint. Think about that. If you like the ZL1 today, you're going to love the SS tomorrow. Think about that from a philosophical standpoint.

This is very bold talk. Reuss is basically promising that the performance of the new SS will be on par with the current ZL1. If true, that's really amazing. And, indeed, this would be a HUGE leap forward in what he refers to as "an accessibility and model-range standpoint."........

This was quoted early this year by Mark Ruess himself. 455hp vs580hp isnt the whole story. Its the entire rev range. Look at the C6 LS7 VS C7 Z51 power graph thatbin itself will explain alot ...besides the fact the new SS will weigh roughly 400-420 lbs lighter 3680ish vs4100 ish
