ZL1 regrets....

So I've been seeing a lot of used ZL1's for sell lately and I started wondering......

If the people who owned the original 69' ZL1's could go back in time would they have sold their ZL1's?

I know some peeps just move on to something new and that's cool. But I wonder if 20+years from now some former ZL1 owners will regret selling their cars.

I understand the new and improved 6th gen is coming out but there's something raw about the 5th gen's muscle car looks and feel. The ZL1 backs this up with amazing HP and a robust drivetrain.

Not hating on anyone who has to sell for whatever reasons....just some random thoughts.

I have bought and sold cars I wish I should have kept my whole life [since I was 16 and now I am 62] but you can't keep them all. My 2 most regrets were a 1969 Z/28 that was hugger orange with with stripes and a 1970 Olds 442 W-30 that was rally red with white stripes. I sold the 69 Z to a guy and 2 weeks later someone ran a red light and t-boned him and totaled that car out. The 70 442 W-30 was missing for over 30 years and I found it again in michigan and it was for sale and I could not believe it. I called the guy and bought it right then. I paid a transport company to go pick it up and when the driver got there the guy who owned the car called me and said he just could not let it go and he wanted to back out of selling it. I thought about it for a bit and told him he had to pay all of the expenses I had been out for the transport and refund my deposit and he could keep it. I don't blame him on wanting to keep it because if I would have got it I would not have sold it either. Now I have this 15 ZL1 and it is not going anywhere,it is mine for as long as I have left on this earth and I hope I live to be a 100.

The original ZL1's were 69's........ I thought I'd never sell my 12' ZL1 M6 but I guess things change for most people, mind you I did sell it to buy another ZL1. Personally I'm much happier with the A6. Hate to say I'm never selling this car because the Z06 is tempting. Lol

I'm baffled and amazed myself kaBoom, of all the ZL1's for sale on this board and private listings. Most used ones are high mileage and I really feel people are looking for the next best thing. Even though the market is saturated right now, the people looking to sell their 13, 14 and even a 15 ZL1 will have much better success the first quarter of next year after the new ones come out and the price is 65k.

As for regret of past cars...yup. biggest mistake of my life was selling my 69 Shelby GT500 in the late 90's. I bought it from Reggie Jackson in the early 90's and today they are worth 140k

BTW, I do not feel any of these muscle cars of today...Camaro, Shelby, Hellcat Challenger or even a new Vette will be anything like the muscle cars of the 60's 40 years from now.

My '15 ZL1 will be passed down to my son along with my '68 Buick GS400 that my Dad bought new and was passed to me when he passed last year. I've had cars that were "expendable" and did not have attachment to, but not these two beauties.

Lots of great cars over the many years I have been driving!!! The ZL1 is my favorite.
If I could have kept my 1966 Chevelle SS 396, 375 hp, 4 speed, that would be the one!!

There should be NO REGRETS if a car purchase was properly planned.

Speaking for myself, being the owner of an older Camaro and LSX vehicle, I was versed in the good and bad factors of owning one of these; Thus my ownership experience with the ZL1 has been very good up to this time. One has to realize that the ZL1 is different from a lot of cars, and if one doesn't take into consideration that the car will need handling that's different than some other cars, then some disappointment and/or difficulty could happen.

Aside from this, if the car was built properly, I find it hard to think that anyone would be disappointed in a ZL1, again unless that person didn't realize what he or she was getting into with owning one.

I personally plan on keeping VENOM until I die. Of course, life is what happens when you make plans, but that's the goal ;-)

I had a zillion cars I'd like to have back. With this ZL1, I don't plan on tossing it aside any time soon, but unlike yesteryear, I'm not quite as attached to cars like I once was.

One in particular that I owned I contemplated on partial trade for a 69 Hurst/Olds. I ended up where I did NOT get rid of it. I ordered a 1985 Olds 442 in September of 1984. I did not get allocated until after January and I received the car in the end of Feburary 1985. It was one of 3,000 made for 1985. In 1988, a guy who had a near-mint 69 Hurst/Olds (912 produced) was willing to trade my car and 2500 cash. I ALMOST bit. I eventually ended up with a 69 Hurst/Olds too, so I feel like I won overall.

But I didn't keep it because I thought it would be worth a million dollars. I kept it because when I was a punk kid, I promised myself one day I would buy a brand new 442. You can never get back your first new 442. Interestingly, my first new Camaro was an 82 Z/28.

So I did order/buy the 442. Was my only car for a little while. Kept it rock stock for the last 30+ years as it rolled to 60K miles. Even kept the original Delco battery that came in it, although I have no idea how I could get that rebuilt. Bought several thousand GM parts for it over the years to restore it one day to its former glory. Probably when I retire in a few years...all it will need is paint work (crappy 80s GM lacquer). I have 98% of all the other parts I need. Even reproduction Eagle GTs. I'll sink a lot of money into it I'll never get back, but that's ok with me.
