Told ya the ZL1 would cost as much as a vette. Corvette base price is $49,425 and Grand Sport base price is $55,925. Guess history DOES repeat itself!

I still can't afford this car, I pay my house off in 18 months... That is when I will consider the ZL1..

Even a $20,000 down payment on a $54,000 car is still going to be in the $625 - $675/month and that is before %, GasGuzzler Tax or any other options you want.. I'm upset

I'm still in! Now I have to see which dealer to go with. #1 is charging 4995 over msrp, dealer #2 says no mark up (I'm skeptical about his allocation). I will be working overtime this winter. And ford can make a 1000 hp car and I still won't be interested..who really needs over 500hp really? let alone 600hp? unless you're racing professionally or for $

Seems like the majority of guys expected the 55K price. Those that expected less were just hoping for something that never could happen. Performace numbers are exactly what I was expecting from 580 crank hp.. Remember its still a 4300 lbs car with fuel and driver. Doubtful that any factory car will ever compete with a custom modified car at the track. The 75K supersnakes dont dominate at the track against a properly built Camaro either, so to expect the ZL1 to be something its not is just nuts. f55 suspension will be awesome on the road but marginal at a drag strip as has shown to be the case on the Z06 and CTS V. Overall I would rate the Zl1 as an outstanding factory build that is fully warranteed except at the track...Remember that still voids warranties. Oh and also remember that the Zl1 does not meet NHRA inspection requirements so if it went any faster you could not run it anyway.

Why would anyone back out now? I can't image any one that would have order a ZL1 expecting it to cost less than 55k. I think it's a bargain at that price.

I imagine there were plenty of people hoping that it would be in their price range so they reserved a spot just in case.

Well, I just traded my '11 Camaro 2SS/RS LS3 on a new '11 Corvette Grand Sport Coupe. I knew the price of the ZL1 would be too high and knew it would have a GG tax on top of that!! Add too, that no one will be discounting this car and most dealers will have a market adjustment price added to the MSRP! $60,000+ is more what this car will be selling for!
My Corvette Grand Sport MSRP was $59,230. There was a $3000 rebate + got the car under invoice. A little over 50k out the door! Factory Specs on the GS..436 HP Weight- 3370 lbs. 0-60--3.95 sec 1/4 mile--12.3 sec. @ 117 MPH Top Speed--190 MPH MPG 17 city 26 Hwy.

IF that's the case, you could've gotten the 750 HP super snake which posted the same times as the 2011 GT500...more HP doesn't always help you, the vehicle has to be balanced. Sadly, most people go just HP #'s because they live their life for bragging rights of what's on paper but don't live based on real world experiences. With equal drivers from one stop light to another, lap for lap around the track is how I would base my decision on top performance muscle car
Yup...read the mags,,,that will always give you the straight, honest, ubaised information to formulate your opinion from.....

I'm waiting for them both to run on a track, same day side by side. I couldn't afford either one of them anyway.
Oh yeah, I see your point, tests on youtube are definetly the way to go to obtain reliable information based on verifiable information and critical anaysis.......

The GT500 news shouldn't make a true Camaro lover out. HP wars always are like this. One ups, the other ups. ZL1 will fire back in 2013.

Weight aside, more HP is needed.

......................Except for a warranty, when you void your powertrain by putting a pulley/snout on to get that 650 number!
