BREAK IN PERIOD QUESTION
I know the break in period is 1500 miles. But I'm wondering about straight from factory to Lingenfelter for work being done with stock dyno runs before and after, then I will baby the 1500 miles myself. Will this hurt this motor?
My plan is the following since I live so far north. Going to be ordering 2014 ZL1 vert manual, yellow, recaro seats, carbon fiber insert, late fall, early winter. purchasing from my dealer in Maine. Having shipped to dealer near Lingenfelter. Then have them PU and install. LPE 650hp super charger upgrade package Port & polish throttle body Torq twin fan heat exchanger LPE high capacity reservoir Stewart-emp hi volume pump LPE programmed Kooks 1 7/8 headers and hi flow cats Koolsox plug covers HotSpark plug wires Cosmetic Etc. Then have Lingenfelter ship back closed carrier to my dealer to save freight one way. My dealer has helped and worked on the last 3 supercharged vehicles!!! |

Just drive it as you would if it has 30,000 miles.
People don't realize what cars go through before they even get to the dealership. |

No problem, in fact on the dyno right away will actually help your ring seating.
Do NOT baby it during break in. |

The whole "break in" period is to familiarize yourself to the handling characteristics of the ZL1. I seem to recall that there is no drive line in existence that requires 1500 miles in order to function correctly!

Thanks guys I was questioning myself against my prior experience. I have always put them on the dyno before and after the build. Then just get use to the ride and take them to the track. It threw me off with everyone saying do not go above 4000 rpm until 1500 miles as this will hurt the engine.
Great site, great input. Thanks |

Why worry about the break-in if you violate the warranty?

That is what Chevy recommends, they built it.

I'm not worried about the warranty or I would just leave everything alone but I can never do that. Just did not want to expire the engine before its time. That would mean rebuilding, that's for a later date, maybe the following year.

There has been a couple of machine shop guys on here who have said the break-in is justified, not just for the engine but the rear end and other components. I am not a machine shop guy but he explained that in a new rear end there are microscopic pits that the fluid can become trapped in. Until those pits are worked out you could hurt the rear because it doesn't get an even amount of fluid between the parts and doesn't flow smoothly. Personally, I took it easy and followed the guidelines and don't regret it. I can imagine blowing the engine at 1000 miles and the dealership saying sorry you didn't follow the break-in period, you owe us $5,000.
