Lingenfelter L28 Camaro at Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational

Hey guys, for those of your following the L28, Danny Popp ran the 3rd fastest time in the autocross in the morning. Everyone was on pins and needles to see how it would perform on the road course, but it wasn't meant to be... 3 turns before coming onto the front straightaway to take the green flag, something let go in the L28 (apparently in a BIG way) and he pulled into the pits.

Anyone know what happened to the car? It was a fun car to watch (Popp showed he can make the heavy car dance) and loud as hell.

I was on the front stretch waiting for him to come around the corner when the chase car came around instead :-( I really wanted to see him at top speed. I saw that they were jacking the back of the car up. I wonder if something let go in the rearend.

The rubber coupler between the transmission and the driveshaft broke. When this happened, the driveshaft hit the bottom of the shifter. It hit with enough force that the shift knob was bounced off the roof of the car. Danny had his hand on the knob when this happened.

On the positive side, the car was very fast. On the out-lap of the road course Danny ran a 1.495 second lap. The car finished third in the autocross. It had the fastest time but slid through the stop box. That run was disqualified and the 2nd fastest time put Danny in 3rd place. With the broken driveshaft, the car could not run the speed-stop challenge. Without any points from that event Danny finished in 7th position overall. Not quite what we had hopped for, but still pretty good for a 4000+ pound Camaro.

Well that sucks. It ran great right up until it broke. Isn't that always how it goes? Hope Danny's hand is okay.

Time for a one piece solid mount driveshaft?
