On a long trip the manual will get you there faster! And unless you hit traffic, very little shifting.

My buddy and I drove straight from Florida to Minnesota and a week later back in his truck. Both trips nonstop. One time 24 hours other was 27. We each did half so 12-14 nonstop I suppose. Didn't notice the manual with highway driving though. My usual hour long I-4 traffic jams get old however.

Real men drive a stick...'nuff said

Seriously, get a stick...you'll be glad you did. And sticks are faster...yes, let the flaming begin, lol.

If you are planning on buying an SS with automatic transmission you should research all the issues with AFM. I am not sure I would have bought my SS with auto if I knew about AFM.

You should test drive both. I have an auto but was surprised at how smooth the stick is. If you want a hot rod get a stick, if you want a nice cruiser get an auto. AFM does not bother everyone so you need to check it out for yourself.

like others said, it's about how much traffic there is - not the length of the drive.
i took my truck from TN to northern michigan & back (almost 17hrs in one stretch each way). on the highway, not having cruise control was the bigger annoyance. in towns along the way (even during rush hour), it wasn't any kind of chore to shift gears. i've taken my car on plenty of 8hr+ trips with no problems - even when traffic on the interstate comes to a 2mph roll for an hour & a half you just learn that instead of riding up on everybody's bumper, it's better to just put it in 1st & let it idle along - the space will grow ahead but will shrink as they hit the brakes then grow again as they hit the gas - all while you're basically just sitting there smoothly rolling

actually, i get bored out of mind if i have to drive an automatic vehicle - especially on long trips

as long as traffic is flowing, you will not have an issue with the manual.

The longest ive driven in my camaro is from San Diego to San Francisco, and no issues at all

I had a much more enjoyable experience driving 10 hours south to Georgia than I currently do driving an hour (one way) from VA to DC to pick up my girlfriend.

Manual gives you something to do for the 8 hours you're stuck in the car.
