My bad - I went to grab the link and realized I mixed the damn letters up again. ZL1, not ZR1.

PS - Pure speculation, too, not official from GM. I do work for GM, but I'm not privvy to any such information.

LT1 circa 4th gen Camaro. And a new sedan named after a trim (SS).

WTF is GM doing?

The LT1 was in the Corvette C4 as well and they have been reusing designations lately. ZR1, ZL1, LT1, ... And a model named after a trim makes sense in this case imo. It's supposed to be the new Impala SS except it has ... well nothing .. in common with the Impala and they're following in the Skyline's footsteps. They just renamed it the GT-R...

That I 100% agree with you that it's silly to do it that way (both from Nissan and GM) is a different story, I just feel that it makes some sense.

What impresses me is the fact that the V6's have more horsepower than my 70 SS Nova does (350ci , 300 hp).

News Flash! The ZR1 is TOP DOG and does it with less power. 205mph with 632BHP.

No one has broken Ford's claimed 200mph yet with a stock car. I don't think the design team is too concerned. The current LS3 pushes the base Vette to 190mph. What do you think the new motor will do?

With the new LT1 at 450HP, I'm wondering if factory HP at GM has just about peaked. It's hard for me to imagine factory Camaros with 700HP, but I sure never thought I'd see something like 580HP either. Aren't CAFE ratings getting tighter soon? I'd think they'd have to back off a little at some point.

What's GM's peak?

Thanks,

Geno
I would like to see what it would do with a TVS 1900 on it like the ZL1's have.

If I'm not mistaken, the CAFE standard states that all car makers in the US must have 30% of their volume to contain cars that have a minimum 35mpg rating by the year 2015. That's why the Big 3 have so many different models to choose from.

Perhaps someone else could enlighten us............

Thing is technology will continue to get better and we will keep engineering the future. Honestly until someone pulls the plug on the engineering department at GM, engines will continue to have more and more HP/TQ as the years go on.

and I'm not going to touch another CAFE thread
