A RJT 2010 V6/RS owner carjacked and abducted yesterday from metro in Springfield VA
I was watching the news last night. There was a urgent alert showingt a RJT 2010 Camaro was car jacked. It appeared the owner was put into the trunk and driven around for 1+ hours before the car jacker let her out. After she was let out she called the police, who pursued the theif. The car was wrecked in the chase and the theif fled on foot. They were doing a manhunt last night.
I wonder why she did not use the trunk release. It should have been glowing. I would have hit it on the first stop and called police to let them know I have onstar. Is this a forum member? Does anyone recognize the plate? I couldn't tell you what type of revenge I would take if he got the drop on me. It sounds like the owner was not harmed, but I would definitely get revenge! Here is the news caption: Woman Abducted From VA Metro Station Subject in custody, police unsure if it is suspect Updated: Wednesday, 02 Sep 2009, 6:03 AM EDT Published : Wednesday, 02 Sep 2009, 5:45 AM EDT By MYFOXDC STAFF/myfoxdc LORTON, Va. - Police in Fairfax County have a subject in custody but are not connecting it to an alleged abduction and carjacking that happened Tuesday night at a Metro station. Officers say the abduction and carjacking happened just before 7 p.m. at the Franconia-Springfield Metro station parking garage on Tuesday. Police say the suspect abducted a woman at gunpoint and forced her into the trunk of her 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. The suspect drove the victim around for about an hour before dropping her off. Once free, police say the woman went to a home on Silverdale Road in Lorton, Virginia where she called 911. She was not injured. Police saw the suspect driving as they approached the scene, and chased him. They say he wrecked his vehicle near Hooes Road and Furnace Road, and then fled on foot. At this time, the suspect is still at large in the area of Lorifax Heights, near Hooes Road and Lorifax Drive. A subject has been taken into custody by police, but at this time they are not connecting that person to the case. Police describe the suspect as a black male who is about 5'9" and in his 20s. He was last seen wearing a tan t-shirt, and he was armed with a handgun. U.S. Park Police are also assisting in the aerial search. Residents were advised to lock their doors and windows and not open the door to strangers until the suspect is in custody.

Camaro Owner Carjacked
I am not sure if anybody else has seen this, but I wanted to share. It sounds like the driver of the vehicle is ok, which is the most important thing. Hopefully they are doing well and will be able to get through this quickly.

I thought Onstar was supposed to slow the vehicle so they couldn't wreck it. Then again if Onstar never got called and the police caught up with them first.

I assume there wasn't time to have Onstar stop the car with vehicle slowdown or remote engine block...to bad. Glad the owner is ok.

I just read about it this morning, pretty crazy. I am glad that she was not hurt in the whole thing. I know it sucks to see the camaro wrecked, but that is really the least of worries in the whole ordeal.

From what I read in the news, I am assuming Onstar was not contacted, because they found the car like an hour later. I just hate to see that happen and thank god she's ok.

These kinds of things are unfortunately all to common in todays times. It's a miracle she wasn't hurt and I'm sure the last thing she was worried about after getting out of the trunk was making sure police knew she had Onstar. I know my state of mind wouldn't be good at all. I'm sure she spent that hour scared to death that guy was going to kill her. Insurance will fix/replace her car, they can't do the same for her life.
Hopefully they'll catch the guy but he'll probably get off with a slap on the wrist, a few years in jail at the worst. I'm sure it's not his first go round and they'll keep letting him go until one day he goes a step farther and hurts/kills someone. All one can hope is that his stupidity takes him out of the picture before he has a chance to hurt someone else. |

Just wondering why she didn't think to use the trunk release? I guess jumping out of the trunk of a moving car at speed wouldn't be a lot of fun. Just glad she is alright and they caught this punk. Hopefully he spends some quality time staring at some bars in jail.
Just a little off topic but the thing that sux about here in MD, it is next to impossible to get a CCW permit but these common street thugs can brandish guns and threaten law abiding citizens and just shoot random people for no reason at all and we have no way to protect ourselves or our loved ones. The first thing I do when I finally move back to PA is go to the sheriff office and fill out my paperwork for my CCW. |

From what I heard this morning, the suspect they caught might not be the jacker....they havent said anything else about it. And you are correct, you can replace a car, but you cant replace a life.

Camaro Car Jacked
I saw this on the news this morning. Also I felt like I was going to get carjacked last week at a gas station by a really skechy guy and his freinds, He came up to me and was telling me how he had his brand new camaro stolen and that he was so pissed because it was one of only 500 made. Thats when I knew it was some skechy business going on and hauled @$$ because I dont work in the best area of maryland haha. But heres the link to the story.
Camaro was wrecked after the chase. http://www.myfoxdc.com/dpp/news/loca..._metro_station |

First, glad to hear the driver is OK. As someone who will be driving into D.C. this afternoon, I am now keenly sensitive to this problem. Especially with this car, which attracts so much attention.
We certainly don't know all the facts in this case, but it raises some questions: In such situations, who calls OnStar? I thought the police did... Or the 911 operator... If not, shouldn't you call OnStar right after the 911 call? Does anyone know? I have memorized the OnStar number for just such occasion: 1-888-4-OnStar. Scott tells the story of how OnStar directed the police to a stolen car, so we know what is possible. |
