percentage of camaros with evaporator/blend door failure

just wondering what % of 5th gens have gone under the knife for evaporator or blend door failures.mine has,and a friend just got quoted 3k to have his 2015 SS evaporator fixed.seems like a really bad idea to engineer the 5th gen in this fashion.are other cars having the same problem?

Neither of mine have had this issue…. Then again my current car only has 4,000 miles on it. The last one was almost to 70,000. Both 2010’s built in ‘09.

Guess as a data point I'm also around 70k miles with no problems, but only had the car for 10-15k so not sure if it had the problem before, the most annoying part of the HVAC system for me though is the blower motor, it likes to squeak at lower speeds and looks like it has been replaced in the past (whoever replaced it used plastic bolts and then melted off the heads so I can't easily replace it anyways, definitely sounds like a dealership thing to do).

With the cars that have higher miles it's a 100% guarantee.

Some crazy redneck unplugged mine permanently.
Reverse engineering planned entropy can be cold at times in January tho.

Remember the late, great, "Not a 45?"* He said by 2015 they had resolved the issue. He had not worked on one from '15 on. I know that doesn't answer the question but I sleep a tad better at night!

*not exactly sure where and why he went. I PM'd him recently. Crickets...

The late great "Not A 45"? I wondered what happened to him. Haven't seen him on here, now I know why.

128k on mine and so far not a problem that I know of. Of course I don't ever move my dial over to the "warm" setting then back during the winter months. It just stays on cold setting all the time. And yeah, I wondered too what happened to 45.. Miss seeing his posts and his help.. Hope he's alright..

Being a GM tech, he seemed to have an inside track. And also seemed to love sharing his knowledge/information. Probably bought a Mustang.

I hit right around 100K in my 2013 and it went out. Dealership wanted almost $4K to do the job. My son-in-law and granddaughter did it for $600.

Blend door failure here too. IDK about evaporator yet, hope to god not. I am currently chasing a stubborn refrigerant leak.

If I ever have to replace the evaporator, I am using that as an excuse to put in a color HUD.

210k on the SS 140k on the RS both 15's no trouble with both but I installed heater core water shut off valves. I think the doors fail from high heat from heater core. It fatigues the plastic and then one hot day you start the car and the doors cycle whammo broken plastic door.

Have not seen it on either of mine but I do keep the dial a couple clicks off full cold now. Never found a need to use the heater, so if mine goes I'll be putting in a bypass hose.
