January 2015 update - My V6 beat a 4.6L Mustang

UPDATE.

He finished the Coyote engine swap, we met up on his families property and went for a rematch.
Arm drop, I got a hole shot launch on him and kept a fender on him for about 60-70 feet.
I'm pretty sure I had a fender due to wheel spin on his part, cause suddenly he was flying past me in a glorious cloud of exhaust noise and fumes.
He properly trounced me by the time the 1/8 mile rolled past.

Before the flamers come out, yes it happened.

1/8 mile, private road, I got him on a hole shot off the line and kept a fender on him the whole time.
Pretty sure he should have won. I see him around from time to time and I'm also pretty sure he hurt his engine street racing, it didn't sound right.

If you got the jump, it isn't suprising. His main advantage over your 6 is his low end torque. He his car is capable of pulling you off the line, but once the RPMs are up you should be fairly even. A better driver in the 6 will take the advantage away at the light.

We launched on 3 horn, and I was anticipating the third honk.

FWIW, he was cool about it. Just came by my office and told me he thinks he's got a wiped lobe on the cam. He also had a CEL come on on his way home from the race.
I was honestly pretty surprised by it. I figured I could keep up with him, which I did, I just happened to be 3 feet in front of him doing it.
I won't race him again though. He's already got a Coyote engine waiting to go in.

Not a huge surprise to me.

I've always said that the GT should walk away initially in a drag and down low, but once the speeds climb the V6 should be hanging....but unfortunately by then the GT has pulled ahead. From a roll it should be closer.

But in your case if you got the jump on him out of the gate then I can see it being a good race.

Of course, if his car wasn't running right that kind of throws it all out the window.

4.6L doesn't surprise me, 5.0L I'd be amazed at what a terrible driver they must have been.

Hell my 2000 Focus 2.0L DOHC beat a 2004 3.8L by a few feet

Mariojoe, I'd take that bet more often than not.

We aren't talking the fairy 2v 4.6 from 96-98, or the slightly improved one from 99-04.

A competent driver in an 05-10 3v 4.6 should easily handle a stock v6 camaro in any configuration of the two. Obviously driver error plays a part, but from a dig it's the mustangs race to lose every time.

This... All day this lol

You're talking about a car that is roughly half a second quicker down the quarter... That's another 5 full cars from a dead stop.

Earliest rendition off the newer 4.6..

Convertible so it's the heaviest

Probably an automatic so running 3:31s...

Driver admitted to engine problems

Doesn't sound like a win to me. Let me guess if you raced a bugatti that had no tires and couldn't even move you would consider it a win.../fail bro.

Had he not wiped a lobe on the cam he would have driven past me on the way there.

It don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning.
