Checking intercooler coolant

I was wondering if anyone can tell me how much coolant should be visable when checking the intercooler??.. I checked mine yesterday and there seems to be some near the bottom of the hose,(maybe less than 1/8" from the bottom of the hose), but the hose doesnt look full of fluid. How full should it be? The owners manual doesnt really state how much fluid you should see.

I dont see it to the bottom of the cap...When its running i dont feel much going through the top hose below the fill cap..the bottom hose it feels like theres fluid running but i really have to pinch the top hose to feel any fluid going through it.

Ok, so i just took it for a drive and came back and checked the fluid..Now with the engine hot, the fluid was right up to the bottom of the cap.. When i checked it cold, there wasnt much in the hose..Is that normal?

Hmmm, I'm not sure.

Only looked at mine once and I'm pretty sure it was cold.

I'll look at it tomorrow and post back....

Get an 1" clear hose about 18" long. attached that to the top of your fill port standing straight up. Attach funnel and use some string/wire to your hood to hold the whole thing upright. Fill about half way with coolant and then cycle your IC pump for about 60 secs each. Once all the bubbles and the fluid stops dropping your good to go.

Good video.

Great tip, Thanks KaBoom

I plan on getting the Rotofab reservoir soon, which i understand makes all this much easier.

Am I correct that if the coolant is too low or too much air (basically the same thing) the intercooler pump will not run ??

Just checked mine cold...pretty full !!

Correct.

The pump will stop to protect itself from damage if too much air is in the system. When you start the car is the pump stop after the first 15-30secs there is too much air in the system.
