Competition Watch: The 2010 Chevy Camaro

Interesting, but beware the "reports" they mention re a 220hp V6. Not happening as far as I know...

All things considered, the Ford Mustang is a popular topic of discussion around here. About.Com Mustangs, it just makes sense. Well, what about the competition? We've talked (a.k.a. speculated) a lot about the 2010 Mustang, and we've talked about the Dodge Challenger, but what about the 2010 Chevy Camaro? Well, Road & Track recently captured "spy photos" of Chevy's upcoming power pony in its July issue. I say this loosely, as most of us have already seen photos of the concept Camaro that made its debut in 2006. According to the article, there will be subtle changes made to the finished product.
The new Camaro is expected to debut next year as an early-2010 model. According to reports, it will be available as either an LS, LT, or SS model: LS with a 3.5L V6 which produces 220 hp, LT with a 3.6L V6 producing 300 hp, and the SS (Super Sport) being powered by a 6.2L V8 capable of outputting up to 405 hp. Of course, this brings to mind a popular question. What does Ford plan to do with the 2010 Ford Mustang? Things are sure to get interesting.

Well they do have the 6.2L engine info, not the 6.0L. They're more credible than some sources. I agree with you about not having a 220hp 3.5 though. You never know though. But this means that only 1 trim v8 camaro, contrary to everyone's speculation.

I'm still waiting for official response. Good find though.

Thanks!

You know I didn't think about the levels mentioned - one V8 SS. That could work, then the supercharged model coming later would be the Z28. Good speculation, and I agree, time will tell.

The 2010 Mustang will sport the new 5.0 V8. The engine is capable of cranking out 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. It will also get you better gas mileage than the current 4.6.

They are already testing. Here is the article.
http://www.leftlanenews.com/ford-beg...ang-spied.html

I'm very excited!

Not to mention, the Mustang will more than likely have an option for the twin turbo V6, dubbed "eco-boost", offering V8 like power, and V6 fuel economy.

Complete rubbish....LS LT and SS? Complete rubbish. The 3.5L is being killed off and not heading into the Camaro, or any other car. Was good for a laugh though. How these people come up with this stuff is astonishing.

What kind of mileage improvement do they expect to get from that EcoBust V6? I don't see it as much of an improvement over the current 4.6 engine, if at all.

Sounds more like a "Green" Marketing Gimmic.

I really finds nothing wrong with this but only one v8 trim, why not use the 303hp v8 from an impala, was expecting at least 430-450 hp ss though, only time will tell

the 5.3L 303hp is a transverse mounted engine for FWD.

The LS4 is a smaller 5.3 L (325 in³) version of the Generation IV block. Though it has the same displacement as the Vortec 5300 LH6, it differs in that it has an aluminum block rather than an iron one and it uses the same cylinder head as the Generation III LS6 engine.

This engine is adapted for transverse front-wheel drive applications. In order to fit into the smaller engine compartments designed for V-6s, the LS4 engine block had to be shortened by one inch. Displacement on Demand is also used. Output of this version is 303 hp (226 kW) and 323 ft·lbf (438 N·m).

im not putting stock into this article. when the disciples mentioned what cars they got to drive they said there were 3 near production ready vehicles. and how many of those were V6? one. just one. it was the one they got to drive.

there is one V6 model. and it SHOULD have 290-305 hp.

two V8's.

And i doubt they are getting 20% better mpg on the mustang. that sounds like the "nuclear reactor" we planned on putting in the maro'.

20% over what? 15% less than what?

I mean, if the comparison is to a smoky gas guzzling previous design then it's nice and all that but if it's no better than a new V8 then what's the point?

The only info I've heard from word go was one V6 and two V8. Period. Mr. Lutz said three versions of the Camaro with the base engine being the V6 that is in the CTS which could mean the 3.6, or 3.6DI, although most have taken it to mean the 3.6DI. The only other engine I've heard mentioned is the 2.0L turbo from the Sky/Solstice, but that was talking about a future possibility.
