First attempt at HDR photography

I finally figured out how to put together HDR photography and this is my first attempt at HDR photography with my new camera, (Nikon D5100) I was only able to get one picture, it was compiled from 5 images at different exposures, using Lightroom and Photoshop.

Let me know what you think.

Nice. I like the fact that it doesn't scream HDR.

Now, go out and do it again, but find a cleaner background (ie no fence, or light standards) and you'll have a real winner.

Thanks, This was the only place I found at the time, now I need to find a better background.

Now you know. HDR photos are pretty cool. They allow you to get all the detail in the picture.

Overall, it's a nice shot. The car is too dark. Here's one way to fix that:
1. Open the final hdr.
2. Open one of the overexposed shots.
3. Paste the over exposed into a new layer.
4. Add a layer mask and fill it with black.
5. With a white brush set at 100% opacity and 25% flow, paint in the car, focusing on the darker areas, with a nice, soft blend in the mask.
6. Set the blending mode for this layer to "soft light" and start at around 50% opacity.
7. Adjust the opacity, paint in more or less of the car ( on layer mask) until shadows are easy to see and the car is slightly brighter than the sky. The idea is to lighten the car, not make it glow in the dark.

Try this and post the result. Hope it helps!

I will have to try this when I get some time. Thanks for the input.
