Super Chevy 2014 - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I would like to take a moment and share with you all our experience at this years Super Chevy at Famoso Raceway. With our club So-Cal Camaro Invasion we had been talking about this event for months, we were looking forward to spend a "real racer" weekend, we prepared, promoted and did not shut up about it and were able to take about 18 cars up there. This year unlike my previous year I will honestly say it was not as packed.... apparently the auto X issue made a huge impact on the Chevy community, however that did not stop us.

We met up at our usual club meeting place (Porter Ranch Town Center) at 6 am June 7th and departed with a caravan of 16 Camaro's, beautiful morning for a cruise riding through the 5 N it was evident we would cause attention and indeed it did. We had spectators left and right its not everyday you see a pack of Camaro's rolling together, heads were turning left and right all the way till our arrival at Famoso Speedway. Once at the front gate the same ladies as last year were charging and just like last year they screwed up with the charges...nothing new.. we parked unloaded set up day camp and went straight to our purpose Drag Racing! I met up with Blake (guy in charge) he was very friendly and accommodated us to the best of his extent. He set up a nice 5th Gen competition even though the Gen 5 BOW was Sunday, our guys and gals started tearing apart the blacktop racing and trying to improve their times run after run. We met up with a familiar face Rick, with a beautiful orange SC 5th gen. Yes the Temperature was brutal over 100 degrees but still did not stop us. After a few runs the judges began to do what they do best, judge. As the first day came to an end we met up under the host tent and waited for the results, first gentlemen went to the stage and gave out a few awards and mentioned our friend Nacho who had already received his editors choice award for his insane 45th Anniversary twin turbo SS, then two of our members won awards for best stock and best street. The moment our club had been waiting for and yes we received the club participation award! The 3 So-Cal Camaro Invasion leaders proceeded to speak with a Super Chevy magazine editor who asked about our club. We were informed we would be in the issue where Super Chevy 2014 California would take place in, a great accomplishment for a club, we are not even a year old! Day 2 came around and again after some serious Runs one of our members wins the 5th Gen Challenge a great honor indeed Congrats Carlos !!!

We received some more car show awards and for a weekend in hot Bakersfield it was not bad at all ! and that's not all Blake and myself discussed the whole auto X thing and good news guys Famoso is building an autocross track on the other side of the drag strip!!! so all those bummed out about this years autocross less event it will be back. In California we don't get many events such as these and I believe we must conserve them. we don't want another show to leave our state, plus you do meet people from all over! We would like to thank Famoso Raceway for having us, Blake for setting up that little extra event, Guillermo for setting up for us so-cal enthusiasts and the Hotel Rosedale for putting up with our overnight partying, let me say we had a blast!! Hope next year can be different and we can have more clubs out there!!!

Very nice !! Glad it worked out now if any of you want to Autocross Here is a event for you ..I think Most if not all the Race Team will be there and they do have Drag Racing for you guys if you want but this will be one hell of a Time and Close to home so come out and hang with the other racers since your hooked!!http://www.hotchkis.net/nmca-autocross.html

Also how Many times did you get run the 1320?

Thanks for the invite brother!! we will talk to the guys to make it out there with ya!! We got quite a few runs, Famoso was very courtious and allowed more than they have should of, overall we had a fun weekend!

Thats good last year I could see they were upset when the Autocross guys got to run ....We sat inline for a long time for just 13 sec. of fun..Stright line racing is OK ..but driving the mini Road course we will have show not only how well your car can handle but what kind of a driver you are too..
