Cylinder 7...going deeper

Just took off the intake last night to see what type of damage lurks deeper. Tune was possibly too lean part throttle and I was getting some detonation at weird times during my last track outing. To be continued...

Probably my fault due to the bone head decision to not run headers. I am sure that made it difficult for my tuner to accurately dial in the fueling at part throttle. Stuff happens, no one to blame.

Been following your thread. RE: headers, would the stock header restrict airflow with increased air volume from heads/cam and cause tuner not to be able to tune each cylinder bank properly? Not sure I understand the header comment.

Efficient evacuation of the cylinders won't happen as well with the stock manifolds in turn making fueling difficult to tune especially at part throttle. Every cylinder should be more equal flowing and less prone to lean conditions that occur more frequently on cylinder #7. I am sure it has to be due to the increased duration of intake/exhaust events. All this being said, I am purely speculating and making assumptions based on tuner feedback, etc.

Go long tubes and run it pig rich on race gas when tracking it.

I've seen some tuners put a bung or pyro sensor in # 7 pipe to tune off that cylinder.

Think you need new valves in that head, and you where to lean in that cylinder.

great idea! I may have had a tank of crappy gas even though I always run top tier 93. 100 octane would be more appropriate when tracking due to issues like this above.

A friend of mine saw your plug pic and said "looks lean, and the tip got soft."

I'm assuming like NJMSP, your local track sells some 100+ octane?

Yes, VIR sells 100 octane. Yeah, the cylinder was obviously very hot to torch the plug like that.

Too rich is just as bad as too lean. He does not need race gas. All he needs is a properly tuned car and it will run its ass of and not break. We have done this setup HUNDREDS of times and never had a single issue on one we tuned.

Is there a fuel delivery issue to that cyl? More fuel pressure, bigger rails perhaps??
