1lE/ZL1 wheels lost gloss shine effect

Hey guys,

So on this weeks wash I noticed one of my black wheels has lost its gloss shiny effect, it has gone a dull Matt black and sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the other wheels. Does anyone have any insight? The car is 2015 1LE.

Thank you.

pictures would help a lot

Try re-washing the wheel to see if that helps. When I washed my rims with soap and water the brake dust would just smear and make it look like the wheel lost its gloss. If that doesn't help, try on one spoke and see if that makes a difference. If that fails, that should be covered under warranty.

I apologize in advance for the huge pics...

Good Wheel:

Don't mind the tire shine over spray.

Bad Wheel:

Again don't mind the tire shine over spray.

But, as you can see the dull matt finish.

Bonus:

any thoughts?

Are you using an over the counter spray on type wheel cleaner?

I just fill up a separate bucket and use regular Meguiars wash mix, all the other wheels come out like brand new.

Something was sprayed on the rim that took the paint off. Either get it repainted, take it to the dealership or find a rear set off the classified section.

I was thinking the same thing, looks like the wheel was sprayed with something. I'd get it repainted.

Why not try some wax on it first?

Are you using store bought tire shine by chance? Some will eventually eat through the clear coat on painted rims and cause a dull look if left on the rim and not wiped off asap.

Try claying it first. If it does not come back then the clear has been eaten away.
I still see a ton of brake dust on both wheels.
