AAC Knight Rider LED Bar (RGB version): I couldn't wait...

Ok, well... I lasted 1 day... I couldn't wait any longer to get this thing installed. It took about an hour and that included the trimming of the mail slot. I did not get an install video because I was VERY focused on what I was doing but I would say on a scale of 1-10 as far as difficulty.. I give this job a 5. Not bad at all!

Here is a vid - I am sorry for the quality but it was just after dark and bright ass LED's with an iphone. Not the best but you get the idea.

On the way home from my father-in-laws toy house (his shop) I stopped by home depot to get some epoxy and had about 15 comments on how bad ASS it looked! HAHA!

Enjoy!!

well.. the good part is you do not have to cut anything outside of the area that is covered by the stock mail slot insert. I would say I only cut about 1" by 1/2" piece on each side of the mail slot (far back corners). This allowed me to get the bar pushed through the drivers side of the mail slot from behind the upper valence. All I had to remove were the push pins on the upper valence. The plastic cuts sooooo easy I just used a very sharp (but small) pocket knife so I had full control of the cut.

I can confirm the bumper does NOT need to come off for this install. I will try to get some more close up pics tomorrow or this weekend. I really wanted to do a video for you guys but I just couldn't pull it off. Sorry bout that.

As for the wiring.. I just hid all the wiring along and under the upper valence panels. I ran the ground into the mounting nut for my CAI air box and then ran the positive to the "Jump Stump" as I call it. I used a small hose clamp (metal of course) around the post to tie it down. Then loomed it all up... you can't even tell its there!

WOW! thx for the quick reply cant wait to see the pics on how you ran the wires.so did that double sided 3m tape really work well??some people are saying that its not really sticking to well.
so just to clarify..the cuts that are made would still be able to cover up if in the future i would remove the lights and re install the o.g mail slot insert. correct? im sooo ready to do this install but damn my o.c.d on having detailed instructions!

Yes, the cuts would be covered by the stock mail slot insert if you ever wanted to remove this... but you WON'T! HAHA!

You busted me! I have not "stuck" the strip to the back of the mail slot yet. That is why I went to home depot to buy some epoxy. I also bought the strongest double sided tape you can get as well but I have yet to determine which I am going to use.

The bar itself is a nice tight fit width wise and with the limited amount of trimming I did on the mail slot it isn't budging at all. I drove it home from our toy shop with no problems at all... I just want to clean it up and make it flush with the mail slot so I am going to try the tape first. If the tape doesn't work, I am going to "spot epoxy" it in place. I have even considered trying some of that epoxy putty so it won't run on me. I will definitely gets pics of this part. I bought some of those small c-clamps to hold it in place while the epoxy dries. I did a test fit with the clamps and they are going to work out great!

More to come!

I wanted one real bad until you said about the cutting part, I'll wait until somebody makes one that fits the stock slot.

Very nice. I'm assuming you can cycle to specific pattern or color and stay there? Once there and you turn it off, does it return to the last pattern when you turn it back on?
