Mercedes uses a sensor at the tip of the fob to tell the ignition it is the proper key and you turn it just like any other fob, and you're on your way.
How long would cars be sitting on the lot and at the factory waiting for that complicated fix?

If I even decide to do anything about it, all I'm
Going to do since I used to work at my local dealer when I was in the trade and I know the tech that would be doing this repair, I'm just going to get him to cut me the key so I have a spare for my wallet no charge and leave my remote alone... Problem solved

Put a flip out flashlight in the fob. Or why not just leave the key and give you the extra. Or make it so it will only open the door.

The equinox they gave me to drive has the exact same switchblade key, but a wonky angled ignition switch.

You think they'd just put a nonfunctional key into the empty slot fill it in.

Or even better. An aftermarket company could make a key that fits in there that can start your car.

It would eliminate the need for a separatekey and fob.

Now that's innovative.

Or how about a house key....no wait, that might get recalled as well.

Wouldn't this new setup hang lower than the current one and in fact INCREASE the chances of hitting the key and yanking the position of the ignition?

This is a solution looking for a problem...
