info from Indy on exhaust

A you tube video just reminded me of a comment Scott made on the V8 auto cars. The factory exhaust on the L99 motor will be quieter than on the LS3. The reason being, when AFM kicks in and the motor is running on 4 cylinders, the motor has an unusual exhaust note so they decided to muffle it more. How much more? He didn't say.

one of my biggest gripes w/ my BMW was that it was built to be quiet...headers run thro 2 cats, combine @ a giant resonator, then connect to ANOTHER resonator and then the muffler...

chopped out the 2 resonators and put a magnaflow in place of the stock muffler - mmm, she purrs.

I'm very demanding on being able to 'hear' how my car is running

GM has made a habit of making quiet cars recently. The G8 GT is said to be quieter than the base -until you step on the gas. I can understand how the exhaust might sound weird with the car running on 4 cylinders.

WOT won't sound like 4-banger mode. I don't see what the worry is. So it sounds different when you're coasting—when someone in an Eclipse wants to play on the highway, rev once to watch the ricer go away scared. The L99 will be a booming V8.
