Heat Curing caliper paint

i am going to paint my calipers with VHT paint. VHT recommends curing in a 200 degree F oven for 20 minutes. or they could be driven to temp to cure. mine aren't installed yet, so that's not an option, plus i want to add decals and clear coat. i plan on curing after painting and again after clear coating.

the calipers are brand new, not installed, stock SS Brembos.

question; do i have to disassemble the calipers to safely bake them at 200 degrees F?

i assume the seals would be able to handle at least that temp.

how hard is it to disassemble the pistons and seals? i assume they can be blown out with an air hose?

thanks for any constructive suggestions.

I believe there's someone on the forum that does caliper powder coating and does not remove the pistons. His statement was that the brake system can get as hot/hotter than the oven for powder coating. 200 degrees doesn't seem that hot in comparison to what I've read powder coating requires. Might not be worth the effort if it's that low of a temp.

However my powder coater did remove the pistons and seals. He didn't give me a reason why it had to be done.

I would mask off the area on the back where the pisotns are instead of totally disassembling them. You do not want any paint getting into where the seals and pistons are. This how I did mine. Just my .02.

Word!

Thats exactly how we do em for our customers too.....much easier that way and cost effective for em.

Brembo decals are available everywhere on ebay now too....cheap I might add.

Good luck and let us know how they come out!

are you saying you use the heat gun? or just referring to the masking?
