2008 and newer no roll cage question answered!

Not sure if someone else did this, but I emailed the head tech at NHRA Div. 1(my division for the Northeast)and here is what he said, and I quote....The rule states "unaltered 2008 OEM model year and newer production cars running slower than 9.99 and 135 mph...." That means NO modifications. Additionally I interpret that to mean no drag radials either. So, basically they are saying if you own an OFF the showroom floor car that can go faster than 11.50 you are legal, otherwise ANY mods to any other 2008 and newer car that makes it faster than 11.50 WILL require a bar. So, Vipers, ZR1, Z06 and the such are good to go, if you have the skills to drive them that quick! I find it hilarious, that you can show up with a 08 Z06 and run legal, but your buddies 06 Z06 running as quick as yours is illegal, obviously different tracks will have there own say, but for those thinking they are legal with there s/c SS running 10.80 or so with no bar in it, you will be booted it seems. For the ZL1 owners, I think with a few mods and radials and going quicker than 11.50, I think you'll stay below the radar! I may have to go get me a ZL1 now!!

So a ZL1 is a safer car than my SS....Thats just BS. Guess I see no reason to goto track this year.

I don't think that is what they are saying. No stock ZL1 has been able to go 11.49 so far. This rule is made for the GT500, ZR1, exotics that can go faster than 11.49 in stock form. It would not affect a Camaro of any year or model. (Other than Copo, which comes with a cage already).

I agree it sucks, but they are only trying to save lives I guess. I do still much safer in my car than a completely stripped foxbody with a rollcage though.
