There would be an odd looking gap if you removed them completely. Dunno if any "fill" pieces are made yet.

what are your thoughts on painting them? should i take it in somewhere and have it done? or just leave them as is? i've just noticed that they stand out in my opinion and i dont know that i like that--just trying to get a feel for other peoples thoughts

I had my sent out to AAC to be painte black. I should e gettig them back this week. Right now there are no bezels on the back and there is too much of a gap for it to look clean. I wouldn't recommend removing them, painting them black would be the way to go. I'll post some pics of mine when I get them back on.

Another Idea might be to paint them to match the car color. This may make them blend in better.

I've seen black and paint matched. Either looks fine.

People have taken them off and put some sort of marine gasket around the lens.

I took my off and originally painted them matte black. This weekend I repainted them glossy black and I really like that with IOM. It's not hard to do and there are a few posts with instructions in the DIY section. Also, I believe someone is selling them painted now as well. I don't know how much they are charging for them though.

Since your car is black I would imagine matte black or glossy would both look good and be a huge improvement over the chrome look.

Before w/ chrome:

After, painted glossy black:

Much cleaner look painted. I replaced the hideous plate frame with a black frame yesterday, now time for smoked reverse lights.

I have painted mine flat black and then went with gloss to match by black car. I love them. Just remmember its spray paint and will come off if you take it to a detailer unless they are careful. In my case they werent.... But easy fix.
