98 Z28 got a full wetsand and buff (~50hrs and pic HEAVY)

The owner of this Camaro contacted me after having his car repainted recently and requested a full wetsand and correction. He drove it up to the Bay Area (several hours) and left it with me for about two weeks while I did my thing to really bring out the potential of this car. When I saw it, it was totally lacking in any clarity to the paint and had horrific swirls and holograms from the body shop, along with tons of compound left in nearly ever crevice on the car. I had my work cut out for me.... It was intended as a one week job but turned into two weeks when I saw just how much needed to be done.

Here are the pics he sent me before driving up:

The process on this car:

-Foamed and soaked and rinsed
-Washed
-Clayed
-Mothers Chrome polish and #0000 steel wool on chrome
-Glass polished with GI Extreme Cut on LC PFW (rotary)
-Paint readings taken (acceptable readings)
-Wetsanded 1500 grit
-Wetsanded 3000 grit
-Megs 105 on LC PFW (rotary)
-GI Extreme cut on LC PFW (rotary)
-Megs 205 on LC orange (rotary)
-Menzerna 106FA on LC white (PC)
-Menzeran 85RD on LC black (PC)
-IPA wipedown x2
-LSP: Blackfire Wet Diamond
-Blackfire Detail Spray

Here are the pics:

You can see the heavy holograms and buffer trails...

Heavy DA sanding marks and no clarity...

More heavy holograms and buffer trails

Tips had to come off to work on the bumper and they needed some heavy polishing too.

Working on the glass....

Taking paint readings

Taping off edges for sanding safely

Working on the wetsanding...

Heres the 1500 grit on the roof

And after 3000 on the sail panel

After compounding out the wetsanding marks on half the hood...

SWEET JOB! looks MUCH better. looks like an new paint job defintly. and also, THAT IS HOW A 4TH GEN SHOULD LOOK LIKE! not many 4th gen camaros i like but your's look SICK with the refinished black paint, black housing headlights, chrome z06's, and your other minor details make the car looks MUCH MUCH better then a stock SS.

Thanks! It wasn't overspray, it was just super hard water spots. Sometimes clay works, but these had to be buffed off with the rotary and a foamed wool pad and compound.

Nice work, thanks for sharing.

Are all the paint readings taken after (since thr pics have the logo). How much do you think that process took off, on average?

You always turn out a great finish! Brought that black back to life. Nice work.

-Glass polished with GI Extreme Cut on LC PFW (rotary)
Do you need to do this with a rotary? Does Autogeek carry this?

-Paint readings taken (acceptable readings)
That's a big question I have. What is an acceptable reading?

Thanks for sharing!

Thank you. Those pics of the readings are before the wetsanding and correction. Took off less than 1mil, so there was lots left. I just forgot to take pics with the gauge when I was done.

Thank you! You can get it at Gloss-It.com It can be used on a PC as well. No Autogeek doesn't, but Autopia will be carrying it soon from what I hear.

On a repainted car 10-20 mils is about normal. On a factory paint job about 4.5-5.5 mils. I won't sand anything below 5.0.

Thank you!! 50+ hours can get expensive, but when the owner picked it up he couldn't have been happier to pay the bill
