A friend of mine who is possibly the most anal paint person on the planet (has multiple collectors cars, hes crazy with this stuff) saw a low vin black car and told me the paint on mine (13899) was 1000x better than the lower vin car he saw, so this seems to be an issue. Ive heard it a couple times here. IMHO, get another car, the issue seems to have been resolved.

Another point to consider since I am in a similar situation:

You get the car repainted and your dealer gives you a lifetime warranty on the paint, which is typical in the industry (GM will not give you a warranty on a dealer repair)

You move 6 months from now across country and have a fade issue with the paint. You would have to drive the car all the way back to the dealer for a repair or pay yourself.

Just giving some insight, as this is something I did not consider until recently. If you can get GM to honor a dealer repair let me know, because I am being told "NO".

GM will give you a 7 year on the paint, but if another dealer gauges the paint on a warranty issue, which they will, and know its been repainted = no warranty from GM

My 2 cents, again.

Without a doubt, 100% - make them get you another car.

I just noticed a couple of these spots on my Black 2SS Camaro. I've got one on the hood and one on the drivers door. You can't feel them, it actually looks like it's under the clear coat. On mine it looks like small spots that are lighter than the rest of the car. The one on the hood is about 1/8" in diameter, the one on the door is smaller.

I can't make up my mind whether or not I'm going to get them fixed. In one sense I feel like I'm being overly picky, but on the other hand the purchase of this car was a huge financial undertaking.

What would you guys do?

Russ

BS

Reocurring? Only because you want it to be.

I've received many PMs from actual owners that are tired of this BS. They got their cars, love them and have had no problems.

Number 3, I agree there are many - many new happy camaro owners.

But is is not how you take care of the cars without a problem, It is how GM takes care of the ones that do have a problem that creates true customer service excellence...

Unless you are planning to keep it garaged for 30 years, and turn it into a real collector car, the low vin doesn't mean much. If you go to resell this car in the next few years with 80000 miles on it, then you won't get anymore for it because of the low vin. You also won't get any less because it has been repainted. If you can wait, get a new car, if you can't get it repainted. There arn't many pros/cons to either direction other than time. I would personally just get it repainted especially if you can get it custom! The low vin is more nostalgia.

Are you sure of this low of a VIN#? That sounds way too low for a car delivered in the middle of June. Mine was delivered June 17th and was over 10,000.

If it were me, I'd have them repaint the car and throw in some boot! Still a hard decision to make though.
