Well sure but so does larger intake and exhaust valves and a redesigned combustion chamber.

So if GM and Ford DOHC engines are puttin out around 90 HP/L N/A and DOHC is not the key, then why don't GM push rod motors come close? The Road Runner in the BOSS puts out 88.8 HP/L. Scale that to 7.0L like the LS7 and it's putting out 622 HP. That puts it in LS9 territory and blows the almighty LS7 out of the water.

that is a good question..ever heard of a mighty mouse?? With a bunch of different combos, you can get 400 HP out of an old small block checy 350! Its been done a billion times. Difference is, Automakers worry about reliability, MPG, emissions and all that crap. With a push rod motor, you are limited in the valve size by what fits in the bore and only having 1 cam eliminates the possibility ov having more than 2 valves per cylinder. If you are building your own motor, you can put as big a lift cam as you want and don't have to give two hoots about MPG, CAFE bla blah bla

...yes Clyde, unfortunately we still have to go outlaw to maximize the engines,,,,to get that performance beyond EPA reg's.....with cam overlaps, and the additional performance upgrades....but that is high performance Nirvana. And we have to throw out warranties to do so. The days of yonder we miss, we shall never see again.

Somehow, the sound of the ZL1, over the last 6 months, has displaced the ol' lumpy sounds of yore, with a new radically deep and sporadically popping and groaning that remains worthy of carrying the Muscle Car flag. Take a current LSA and pop it in a 69 Camaro with pipes. How might the new sounds feel in the older car in your opinions?

....hmmmm....honestly, for me, just sayin, I'd rather do up a first gen small block from scratch, get out my old tools, and do up something nostalgic, but in newer N/A terms, using old school methods with the more up to date parts available now. I wouldn't do an upgraded plug and play new motor. That's likely because my hands on experience ended in the mid 80's. But, retro mods are cool too!
