I don't because I really don't care, but I do understand that some people don't want any private info on the net because once it's it there, it's there forever.

This is what I read from a person in some other forum
"It's just cautionary to do it to put our minds at rest, on these forums we give a detailed breakdown of our bikes/cars and what we have done to them and the amount of money put into them and it's like a shopping list for thieves.... They can just scroll through these PUBLIC forums and take your licence plate down and find your bike/car, its that easy!... And also they can clone your plate and use it on there bike/car and you won't know until the speeding tickets come flooding through your door... And yes we do show them on our bike/car on the street bit you may never ride past a person that wants to steal it, but that one person that you have never ridden past see's it on a forum on the internet and see's your plate and puts a plot together to steal it and you've never been within 50 miles of this person and he now knows where you live and he's coming for your bike

This may be a little blahzay and a bit crazy to think but it happens and I'd rather do as much as I can to keep my bike and my pocket safe from a-hole criminals
So an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"

Your license plate is not "private" per se, and people can't really do much with anyway.

If you have a license plate, you're already registered with "The Man" so it's not like the government is going to use your online pictures to track you...they already have your address

Hmmm, somebody has put a lot of thought into that !

So, how do those thieves take your license plate number and turn around and figure out where you live? You cannot get owner information from the DMV anymore

I was going to post some photos of my car as well on this site and my parents thought it was CRAZY to include one with my license plate. I asked why and they said something to the extent of "because people can find your Camaro SS and steal it". My point to them is that you can also walk around a random parking lot/neighborhood/shopping center and find nicer/more expensive cars to steal instead.

This is top notch.. ROFL on this "you should also be careful when posting pics from your cell phone. if gps is enabled and you take a picture of your bike at your house the criminals can locate you house/bike from the picture information"

I figure it like this. Why put more personal/private info online than is necessary? I usually edit my photos anyway, and blurring the plate takes an additional 10 seconds.

Essentially, there are bigger things in life to worry about.

But I only ever park my car for long periods of time either in my garage or at work. And neither one of those places are really "easy" to get to and steal a vehicle without someone noticing, so I don't get too concerned about it.

But, if you don't have a garage or constantly park your car outside or at the curb, I guess it could be a legitimate concern. But again, how is someone going to take your license plate off of the internet and figure out where you live with only that to go by?

I have no issues with displaying my plate. It's public domain when the car isn't parked in the garage anyway. I've got nothing to hide, and I don't believe some internet bandit is gonna track me down to steal it. That runs dangerously close to the "tinfoil hat club". Second only to Onstar.

I fail to see the comedy in this. The EXIF of an image file contains this information if you have GPS tagging enabled on your camera or phone. With a simple website addon, you can right click on any photo on the web and get this information. Most of the addons link right to Google Maps and can drop a pinpoint right on the location that photo was taken. Its not that hard to do and costs absolutely nothing to get the info.
