knew that was just a matter of time.
fact is most of the teams CAN afford a huge payroll, but they choose to line their own pockets instead.

Yeah, and all the good teams have "big" payrolls. Plus the Yankees overpay. No one else would have given Rodriguez or Sabathia what they got. Even their own players, like Jeter, they've paid top dollar to keep. Look at the Mets. They pay huge money and lose or choke every year. The Red Sox called them the evil empire, and practically evreybody on their 2004 team came from somewhere else. I'm pretty sure when they signed manny ramirez for $160 million the Indians fans didn't think the Red Sox were a benevolent little team.
When the Yankees won their last 4 titles it was with home grown players, older guys like Boggs, Strawberry, and some good solid guys like O'Neill and Tino Martinez. They weren't a big power team. They've actually been less successful since they started signing more free agents. All a big salary guarantees you is that the player has already reached his peak. |

OK, fixed...The White-sox signed him to a crazy contract and then dumped him to the Yanks. He had a good season.

I'm not criticising the Yanks or anyone else. I am a BIG defender of A-Rod. Anyone who says they wouldn't have taken the TRs contract A-Rod took is a liar. And I say that boldly. I'm all about opportunity and capitalism. |

I applaud your loyalty. As a Braves fan, I hate the Yankees, but they played hard and deserve their 27th.

I admit that the Yanks give themselves an advantage by spending more money...but they make more than all the other teams, so why not??? And it's not like teams with low payrolls never win. The biggest advantage it gives them is the ability to overcome bad signings. If they sign a $15mil $$ bust, it doesn't hurt them...if the Royals sign a big $$ bust, it hurts a little more. But also consider that the core of the team came up through their system, so winning also comes from good drafting, development and smart trades. As they've proved for the last 9 years, big free agents don't always win. Glad to hear it coming from a Braves fan (instead of just bringing up payroll). Yes, I'm very loyal...still remember my first game...in 1979...I was 6. I still have the ticket stub.
