Question for those with ZL1 and a Charger/Challenger

Just curious to which car is cheaper on insurance for you. For some reason my new Daytona Charger 392 is nearly $600 more a year than my 2017 Zl1. The ZL1 to me is a sports car that cost nearly $20k more, but my insurance company is charging more for a 4 door sedan. I asked them to verify they are not charging me for a Hellcat.

Brand new cars will always be more expensive, especially that first year. Additionally, I'd definitely want to check they dont have you down for a Hellcat, as technically the 392 and the Hellcat are both SRT-8's.

Also, would depend on the deductible too..

Both considered as daily and both have exactly the same coverage. My Zl1 was only $100 more than my 2012 2LT RS that I traded in for the Dodge. Plus the dodge has more safety stuff like lane departure and adaptive cruise control. Just weird to be that huge of a difference if not being a Hellcat

My 2018 ZL1 was $6 less to insurance than my 2006 Subaru WRX per month!

As I said before, buying a brand new car the insurance generally is going to be more expensive. It of course does depend on things like age, state/country you live in, etc...

Gunkk also brought up good points, but you have stated these are DD cars so that eliminates that....

I'd definitely also consider shopping around too....some places quote on a 6 month policy, which creates higher quotes/bills per month

sounds like something to do with it being a new car, maybe replacing is more expensive?
being a four door should make it cheaper.
then again when I traded my regal GS for my 2ss my insurance went from 200 a month to 150. a few months later picked up the zl1 as a garage queen and it is at 170 a month.

maybe look at getting another quote somewhere else for reference?
50 more a month doesn't seem right.

When I bought the Zl1 last year and the insurance was within a $100 of my at the time 5yr old v6 RS I thought that was pretty good. They said it was due to the safety features compared to the 2012. I would have figured the same reasoning would apply with the Dodge purchase.

I get that it is new, but as stated my Zl1 only cost a little more than the v6.

My guess is it has to do with collision rates... i got rid of my 2013 charger r/t with the 5.7 and super track pack, and the replacement 2018 zl1 1le is the same cost for the same coverage.

My '18 ZL1 is $6 more a month than the year 2000 BMW M-Coupe it replaced. I'm not complaining!

Actually, newer cars(told to me by my insurance agent) are cheaper then older cars because they are safer with air bags and they have to pay less for injuries. But my ZL1 was $100 more a month then my GT350. I am guessing it broke some horsepower threshold.

What they forgot to tell you is the cost of the vehicle itself plays into the cost of your monthly/semi-annual bill. That and your credit score plays a significant role in determining your bill.

For me though, it doesn't make sense. The Dodge is ~20k less than my ZL1 and my credit is the 825-850 range
