What does an X-pipe do?

Is there any advantage to adding an x pipe at all....or is this still an open debate?

I could be wrong but I believe an x pipe allows a better flow and creates more hp in higher rpms. An h pipe should provide more torque in lower rpms. I couldn't image it would be hugely noticeable difference.

Your exhaust system has to have some sort of cross over to synchronize and balance the exhaust pulses/pressure on each side. This increases velocity and scavenging. Most cars come stock with an H-pipe. X-pipes tend to make more power but that has turned out to not be as true with the 5th Gen Camaro as it is with most other cars. The engineers at GM created cat backs for these cars that despite sounding terrible actually flow very very well. The X-pipes that you see Camaro5 members talking about are mostly resonated X-pipes. These are an X-pipe inside a resonator. The primary reason they are using these are for drone control with aftermarket axle back exhaust systems.

Thanks, since I have no real problem/ issue with the sound of my mrtv2 there would basically be no benefit for me. That's what I was trying to verify, I can put that cash towards some headers or something.

I would say 90% of us V6 er's who have added the X pipe did so for the RASP that is common when adding LT headers. I know that is the reason I did it.

Like rtcat600man said, if you are going with long tubes then rasp might be the reason to do a resonated X-pipe.

just curious about this part. how is this the case, when there are cutouts for cars (not just Camaros) that claim higher HP?

Question, if I wanted my car to sound more deeper would I do this x-pipe? Mods are in my sig...

It would get deeper but also considerably more mellow in sound.

At idle or while driving? I like my sound but sometimes wish it was more deeper and a little less raspy

The ONLY time you'll gain HP from any exhaust mod is when you relieve a restriction. The exhaust for the Camaro doesn't restrict exhaust flow until you're moving a LOT of air. Not sure at what point that may be for the V6 but the SS 2.5in exhaust is good to over 500hp. I've yet to see a non FI'd SS with cutouts show any real documented gains.

It'll be alot more mellow on idle no real rasp or drone and with an open throttle it will still be loud i don't have LT's so yours will likely sound awesome but with the mellower volume lvl it gets deeper and eliminates 99% of the rasp and a great deal of trunk drone.
