American Powertrain
Has anyone used them to fix the 2nd gear grind/beef up their TR6060? It appears that GM is going to send mine to them to get it fixed once and for all. Any input would be helpful!

What exactly are they going to do to your trans for the fix????? I've never heard of this company before but that in itself doesn't mean a lot.

That makes no sense for GM to send your trans to an aftermarket company.

They have rebuilt it once and replaced it once in the last 3 months to try and fix the 2nd gear grind. The grind came back after a couple weeks of driving.
This is the GM Tech Rep's solution to fix something that cannot be fixed with GM parts. From what they have told me, they are going to rebuild with performance parts and this company has been successful is fixing the problem in some other customers cars. My fingers are crossed... The fact that they are willing to go to this expense to try and fix this issue, is amazing to me, but I ain't complaining!

I'm not quite understanding this either but hey if they are going to do it, and WARRANTY it thats great. I would want to know what they are doing to it though as an example is it the same as or similar to the Tick performance level 2 rebuild? I just can't believe it would be anything close to the RPM level 6 rebuild. I am having my trans done now by Liberty Gears , I didn't have the 2nd gear problems but I will be using the car at the track and increasing HP over the next few years so I wanted the trans beefed up now.

Yes, the only non-factory thing on my car is a Halltech CAI.

I would recommend that your dealership send it to a builder who has proven time and time again that their transmissions do not grind, while supporting a site sponsor that will be here to answer your questions every day. Also with our Level 6 build you can upgrade the power holding capacity of your transmission with our 9310 chromoly mainshaft while you are having the 1-2 grind issue fixed.

I'm 2 steps ahead of you. I sent them contact info for RPM, T&T and Tick for them to do more research on some other companies that may even be cheaper. Not that the company they want to send it to doesn't do good work, but giving them some other options to look into.

Psyche!
As it seemed a little too good to be true, TREMEC techs are now sending down a new 2nd gear assembly to help ease the problem until there is an official fix.
The story I am getting is that this is a known issue and they have no real fix for it, but they are working on it. According to TREMEC, the grind is causing no damage to the transmission, which I find very hard to believe.
