Grumble. Dang local dealer keeping camaro under cover

So a friend tells me that the local chevy dealer has a camaro in the showroom and I am thinking "hell yes, now I can finally sit in one" so I roll over to the dealer and sure enough, there is a camaro in the showroom. And its under a damn CAR COVER!

So I ask the salesguy whats up with that? And he says they are keeping it covered until the may6th release. I told him that was the dumbest thing I ever heard and that there are plenty of dealers showing their cars and even some test drives being allowed. I got a little frustrated and it no doubt didnt help my chances of them pulling back the cover, but I was pissed!

How can you sell a car that you wont let people see?

Anybody else ever heard of this? I havent seen any posts about that?

The dealer I called is getting in 5 of them.....when asking about my specific specifications. He told me he would call the minute they got there and I can come down and test drive the LT and the SS to see which one I liked. Maybe my dealer needs to sell cars?

... got a call from my dealer about 2 weeks ago... they had just gotten their dealer car; a 1LT/RS. The saleperson indicated that they were supposed to keep it covered for the 5/6 reveal. Fortunately, they have it proudly displayed in the showroom... and it's absolutely beautiful !!! ... what a car !!!

GM's specific directions were to do exactly what the op's dealer is doing. It builds anticipation for normal, non-enthusiasts.

Either one of two things....GM told them to do it and they NEED to sell the cars. Being afraid youll go to another dealer and buy one from them who have it displayd. They show and sell them. OR They are just hyping it up even more. Considering people obviously already have them in thier garages....what is there to hide anymore?

It's a GM marketing idea to save them for this coming Wednesday.

The dealers make their own decisions in the end.

I'd grumble too...

Wednesday is the full shabang...

Really though I understand not seeing it in person and wanting too ---->Me but really the only people that havnt googled it or seen it in a magazine would be like a old couple that goes in there and sees it all hidden under its cover and get all excited. Though I share their excitment it wouldnt be for the suspense of Oh man whats under there....but the holy crap theres the new Camaro can I see it???.....NO? Ok then Ill find another dealer thanks much. So IMO marketing plan = FAIL

Hmmmmmmmm..........

I wanna guess which SoCal dealership you went to. Was it the same one with the BIG LIGHTBOARD SIGN on the freeway that said "2010 Camaro HERE NOW!!" ?

F'n unbelievable how unedumacated some of these dealers are.

My dealer put their camaro cover over another car that isn't even remotely the same shape because their camaros weren't in yet.
