There are a lot of talented musicians out there. New Soundgarden is pretty bad ass, Five Finger Death Punch, Stone Sour/Slipknot, Gojira, 10 years, All That Remains, Chevelle....rock is alive and well my friend, listen to a new radio station.

Yeah, as was true in "our day" a lot of the stuff that is played on the radio is pure crap. I do find some music to enjoy but most even is is not really reflective of true musical talent. Commercial rock for the masses was never where the best music was found. You just have to search for it, but there are good bands & good music out there. I like Porcupine Tree for example. Here ya go:

That's why I love Sirius/XM and listening to mp3's. I can pick what I want to listen to and there are no annoying dj's.

Today's rock is all about chunking power chords and bitching in Baritone about life. No Riff, no hook, no melody, no real talent. The "Guitar Hero" generation where no one wants to put in the effort required to get really good at it.

Anybody here listening to Blackstone Cherry? They seem to hit a few good licks. Some music seems to be going in the right direction even if it isn't mainstream anymore.

The drag strip is like sniffing glue, it's cheap, it's a decent buzz, it doesn't last long and they are all the same.
Road racing is like China White Heroin, the buzz is stronger, the high lasts for hours, it's extremely addictive and they are all different.
I can't wait for my next
Track fix.

I love me a good guitar solo, and some great riffs. Guess that's why I'm such a huge fan of the big hair bands of the 70s 80s and what not. Flame me if you want, but I can listen to Motely Crue, Def Leppard, AC/DC, Guns & Roses, etc. and it will NEVER get old.

That stuff really gets me going. I enjoy all kinds of music....a huge variety, but today's rock is not the same, and doesn't have a guitar solo in every song like it used to be.

Things change, and we get older. That's just the way it is.

It's just an evolutionary step of rock in general. That stuff will soon be considered classic rock. I love Metallica (literally favorite band ever to the point where if I get killed at work One and For Whom The Bell Tolls will be played at my funeral...it's in my will). I love their stuff pre 1990 and especially the solos. And I agree with your part in bold. Metallica kinda brought that back with Death Magnetic.
