NPP more power?

The new Corvette gets 5hp more with the NPP exhaust. Shouldn't it be the same for the Camaro? I was just wondering.

I believe dropspeed confirmed 3 HP gains with the NPP.

Dude with zl1 at track day asked what I modified on my exhaust. I said nothing. Just NPP.

Yes sir, despite all of the claims stating there is no difference. This came straight from the mouth of one of the Generals men

6HP gain at rear wheels from a GM engineer. Another 5 HP gain from moving away from belt driven power steering.

The NPP exhaust felt a decent bit lighter over stock exhaust as well when I installed mine.

That is a huge increase compared to what GM claims.

The car is has been rerated HP in Europe for the electric power steering for 2014. Also look at the dyno pull for 1LE's with NPP close to 400HP stock. My SS with my mods is 402HP at the wheels.

That is interesting... The 2014 camaro is rated at 432 hp on the uk website. I don't know if that's a change from the 10-13 in the uk though.

Is that with NPP or just because of the EPS? I'm guessing it includes no options (no NPP).

I believe they do have a different scale when measuring hp. I think the US changed it in 2005. The US uses SAE standard and Europe and japan give measures in bhp (Brake horsepower)

There is a difference in the European measurement. The formula is:

European rating X 0.9863 = SAE hp.

432 X 0.9863 = 426.

See: http://www.caranddriver.com/columns/...olution-column

Still why would GM go to electric PS if it didn't provide fuel economy/hp benefits. NPP - seems like there would be some benefit similar to the Vette, otherwise loses (some of) its $895 value. I just don't think GM bothered to re-rate the output.

Assuming this is the same engine, the current hp rate is wrong unless it was de-tuned for 2013. From the link you included, the manufacturer has to consider the power steering when doing their measurement, the 2013 models should not have to worry about that anymore so the number should be slightly higher.

From that article also, I am now wondering if the 2013 LS3 engine is SAE certified, or if they ever were?

GM would only run the motor through the SAE rating if they were going to lose HP. By removing the power steering pump they know that won't happen, they just don't want to go through the process (costs money and it is only a 1-3hp difference anyway). Most vehicles are moving to electric power steering as I believe overall this may be cheaper and longer life (too soon to really tell), and more tunable for steering response. With the electric motor they fine tune steering much better than depending on a hydraulic pump that changes as the engine speed changes, they have to compensate for all of that and its a best effort type of thing. With the electric motor they can feed in accurate speed info as well as steering angles to really fine tune the steering, much easier to do than with a hydraulic pump. The only drawback is more load on the electrical system, that's about it. The way my 1LE drives I forget that it has electric steering until I look under the hood, the steering is very good.
