Most L-99 drivers haven't met up with a gear shifting Jedi Master which a computer is no match for!

Question: So when you're at the track do you use your jedi mind tricks and the force to help other LS3 drivers?

Doubting the force are you?
The 2010 LSX Shootout in St. Louis was a perfect example of the LS-3 force , 18 Gen 5 cars and only 3 being sticks. It only took me 5 rounds to rip the hearts out of the L-99 team. All of this being done index racing , which was suppose to be a great advantage for you.

Commits weekly crime
|
So, what you're saying is L99 people not only can't shift for themselves, but can't think for themselves either?
Manual forever, baby!!!

Watson is a nice piece of technology.. but, it's not too terribly impressive for me... Honestly, things like Wolfram|Alpha do simliar... SmarterChild back on AIM was similar...
It's a computer system that has the ability to do natural language processing and look up information -- but, did you notice how Watson gets things very wrong from time to time? There are teams of people uploading data in to Watson in a correct form just for it to look through. So, it's not going out in to the wild to parse data like we do. I wouldn't want a computer in my car giving the question of "What is the correct gear to shift in to after 1st?" if the answer was 5. I should also point out that in Stealth.. Tin Man goes batshit crazy and starts trying to off people.. even a team mate (which it succeeded in doing by way of causing the pursuing pilot to err) Besides... At what point does it become pointless to race with too much technology? If a computer is controlling the engine, the body, the drive line and the shifting... What skill is there in sitting in the vehicle and pressing the gas and keeping it straight? Wouldn't a machine be just as capable, if not better than a Human at doing that? If that's the case, then why race with a real car to begin with. A simulated run would be just as good. -- If you're just in it for the thrill, honestly a roller coaster would do the same. There are some extreme ones that will rocket you to over 70MPH in a couple seconds, are computer controlled and are much cheaper on the wallet. |

Ok ok just admit it team L99.... You never learned how to drive a stick and you think replacing the clutch 10 times isnt economical right now. So you figure youll front the $1,000 for the auto and save $4-$5 grand in clutch repairs down the road.
Admirable in these tuff economical times. meh, all in good fun. I drove both before I bought mine. If mine were an everyday driver, I would of given it a hell of a lot more thought. to each to own. What ever makes you happy works for me. |

I never stated that flying a plane wasn't more complicated than shifting a car. But, I wasn't comparing the tech in that to the tech in a car.
I would think the Navy has a slightly different goal in mind with an autonomous aircraft than someone choosing between a stick and an auto. While it is true that computers can beat man in certain things -- they don't beat us in all... Math and numbers? Yeah, they destroy us... But, reasoning, imagination and emotion are a distant future.. Hell, we're just now getting bipedal locomotion down -- something that most of us take for granted. I'm a tech guy. I would love to have an actual Computer Intelligence in my car -- I just wouldn't want any of the ones we have currently. I'd much rather have a machine that was made by a sentient machine, not by man. |

I've worked on completely autonomous Submersible vehicles, and I've seen how bad those can go... several miles off course, dead stops due to a lack of direction, etc... and these are state of the art vehicles... Most of the time they perform great, but when they don't, hold on to your hats... Lord only knows what they will do...
