Sure. Maybe with crazy skinny bias ply tires.

Put some modern radials on a 426 Hemi car and it could probably out perform an SS in the 1/4 mile.

This I have to agree with.

I'd imagine it's as fast as many V8s from previous generations. I don't know a heck of a lot about cars, but what I do know is the 12' V6 absolutely flies. And it seriously roars. I find myself stepping on the pedal any chance I get to have this baby roar in sports mode. It really is just a beast and very underrated.

Isn't this a bit like bragging about being able to post on Facebook with your phone when phones from 1969 couldn't? Must you compare apples to oranges in an attempt to justify an apple?

They're leaving out some. Probably all the big blocks, the high winding small blocks of the early cars, certainly all of the LS1s (which were underrated by about 40 hp). It might not even be the most powerful V6 ever put in an Fbody.

Probably with all the regular production V8s. Don't forget that in 72 the horsepower rating switched from gross to net. So that 300hp 350 on your beloved 1st Gen SS was probably pulling 240hp net. Even still, the LTT can't really match the torque of a V8 especially a big block. There no way the LTT puts more horsepower down that the ZL1 did.

I'm not sure what the LT-1's would be rated in net, it would be close, they were 370 gross. LT-1 as in solid lifter 350 from the early 70's, not the LT1 (no hyphen) from the 90's.

Is there a point to this thread? As much as I think the V-6 is a great motor, I have to think that this attempt, or whatever it is, to put down old small block V-8s is pretty pathetic. There's no doubt any small block could be easily modified to produce well more hp than the under-estimated factory rating, and well over 310 hp...So what?? They were a different animal from a different time.

If trying to put down other older Camaro's is the goal, you are grabbing at straws to make some sort of case. It just doesn't pass the smell test.

Best factory HP rating 1st Gen: 425
Best factory HP rating 2nd Gen: 360
Best factory HP rating 3rd Gen: 245 (I know we aren't talking torque, but it was 345.)
Best factory HP rating 4th Gen: 327 (SS with optional factory exhaust package)

So, in short, no.

It would be pretty close probably 285-310 net I would think. It would still smoke the LTT on torque rating though, that's what gets the car going and so many people forget.

The 02 Camaro SS with SLP's optional lid was rated at 335 hp. My old 01 was rated at 325, but it dyno tested at 329.9 with 1500 miles bone stock.

Is the V6 a serious contender when compared to other V6 performance coupes?? No doubt.

Can it perform like or feel like a V8? Nope.

Those 69 myth-making COPO cars became the ultimate in Camaro performance. Among the most fearsome factory-built supercars of all time, the original ZL1 boasted a quarter mile time of 11.6 seconds.

This is the most significant finding from the OP.
