I already have an Automatic F-body and it's fun to drive but still not as fun as a manual. I love road racing, not drag racing so I went with the manual. The control of the vehicle is a plus, and paddle shifters are boring too so I had to get the stick.

i find the driving experience more interactive, better control of car acceleration and overall fun. I would definitely drive an automatic if i had a luxury car..

You can't spell manual without "man".

Ditto to everything that has been said. I can't understand that the OP says an automatic is "more engaging and fun"? Has he ever driven a manual?

I'm also shocked that the ZL1 poll is in the favor of the automatics!? Any time I have ever had the choice on any vehicle, it is always a manual. Computers still can't anticipate what I want to do and what I see when I look through the next corner!

i get more enjoyment driving a stick and i like feeling the connection with the car.

and im thinking its cheaper to replace a clutch/ manual trans versus an auto trans, when the time comes

All of them auto? They wouldn't disgrace the Camaro name like that.

Hey, I'm a drag racer. I bought my 98 SS stock with the T56 6 speed. After I whored it out and basically made it a daily driven race car I put a manual valve body, transbrake, 5,200 stall TH350 to get the fastest time I could out of it. Being that it was a full manual valve body it only shifted when I shifted it, there was no auto shifting "D" in it. Even though I was still the one shifting the car it still got very boring and I felt like I was a passenger going down the 1/4 mile rather than the driver. Needless to say I traded the stall/TH350 for a T56 set up and never looked back. I actually went a tiny bit faster with the six speed in it, but that wasn't the point, the adrenaline rush fun factor was back and I loved every minute of it.

A lot of guys get an auto in drag racing to get a faster time. I would rather get my best time. Sure I can have a 100 lb friend jockey my car and get a faster time but what fun is that? I want to get the fastest time my skills can achieve.
To each their own, some guys like autos in their SS. Some guys also like to carry man purses and wear skinny jeans.

it's all about '"control"..especially in this car!

and im thinking its cheaper to replace a clutch/ manual trans versus an auto trans, when the time comes
much cheaper, say "nothing?"..basically replace the "throw -out bearing"..but only after a long, long time driving!..just be sure to completely release the clutch, and it will 'theoretically" last forever!..
also, the "stick" is directly connected to the transmission,so,of course "no linkage" to be concerned with!.."bulletproof!"..all gears are "helical" cut with "synchros" "enclosed " in a oil bath, which just requires
an occasional "level" check...yes!..a "direct drive" tranny is virtually trouble free.

More HP
Wanted no part of that AFM crap.
In my mind the manual seems more "old school" (have the Hurst short throw with the white ball)
Love to watch the wife row through the gears. lol
These are just a few off the top of my head.
