I'm guessing the Z setup will last quite a while if you don't get to crazy with it. If your trying to build a nine second car though, you might as well save yourself the trouble and go for the 9" setup.

9 second, oh no...just want a street car that I can occasionally race at the track and still drive on the streets. I just want to make sure things don't go snap, crackle, pop from moderate racing...

Solid rear axle for a pure drag setup would be sweet!!

It would probably shave a LARGE amount of weight out of these cars too!

Wasn't the lingenfelter car running the zl1 prototype diff in their black camaro? It was a manual trans car.

No, I'm pretty sure they had the Lingenfelter 9.5" rear end (link below) in that car. I know at least the housing, if not more was made directly by AAM.

I have a 2010 M6 with a ZL1 rear diff/axles installed by ADM Performance.. I have been to the track several times, with a best of 10.7 1.58.. So far it has worked perfect with zero problems.. Before that I had after market axles & DS with the factory diff.. I did not have a very good experience with the after market axles.. IMO they may be great race axles but are not very street friendly with lowered cars, after only a few thousand street miles they started making a grinding sound. I sold the DS & the buyer, later let me know it broke at the track. After all the after market issues, I decided to take my chances with the ZL1 Diff.. So far I couldn't be happier with the set up.

Wow! Thanks for replying with the info man. I don't really see why the zl1 rear diff wouldn't be strong.

How much power do you have going to the rear wheels?

Those passes were with, 640rwhp on 93 Octane. I have a race gas tune with 720rwhp, that I plan on testing soon.. I'll report back if it breaks.. After Andy showing me the stock parts beside the ZL1 parts, I'm not real worried about it breaking. The ZL1 parts are huge compared to stock SS parts.

I'm asking because I'm close to 700 right now, and I'm working out the details on a cam install. I've seen similar setups from the same shop drive out with 800+. I just wanna know if I should look more into buying and installing one, or go aftermarket.

This sounds like a more affordable alternative compared to the 9" or the Hammerhead. What did the ZL1 setup set you back, minus the install, parts only?

Honestly I would think a ZL1 rear would be as strong if not stronger than a 12 bolt. The ZL1 rear is a 9.5 or 9.9 inch which is pretty damn strong.
